I don't understand why some think that Vikings "vanished". They simply integrated with the locals in areas they settled or conquered outside Scandinavia. We can even find traces of Old Norse in modern day English.

Incorrect about Butch and Sundance and the Pinkertons "confirming their deaths" in Bolivia in 1908. That never happened. In fact, quite the opposite. The Pinkertons didn't buy the story of Butch and Sundance dying at the hands of random Bolivian troops. In fact Pinkerton himself called the story nonsense.

The Pinkertons in fact, continued their manhunt for the 2 outlaws for years after 1908, allegedly into the 1920s. They had good reason to:

*No one that actually knew either outlaws identified the bodies.

*Bolivia at the time was not unfamiliar with white outlaws committing robberies, and authorities killing said outlaws.

*So far, DNA tests have ruled out at least 3 different bodies buried in graves supposedly occupied by Butch Cassidy.

There is alot more on this topic, but bottom line, the Pinkertons clearly did not confirm these outlaws got popped in Bolivia, and in fact, continued an active search for them years after their alleged deaths.

The vikings sailed through stormy seas to get to the Americans in small wooden boats! You can only imagine how tough they must have been!

Owain Glyndwr . There was only one painting ever done of him and that is in Hereford at the Scudamores home . Also the feud was started by Henry 4th as he wasn't given the Prince of Wales as he was given by Richard Lionheart this where he was taught how to fight . As Henry lost his right eye in the battle of Shrewsbury . As when he wife and children were taken away from him at Harlech castle he was helped by another man who liked him and was hiding in caves as you were right nobody knows when he passed away and they also reckon he is buried somewhere in Hereford . It is a shame that there is not much about Owain Glyndwr but thank you for bring him up .

The prevailing theory from my time long ago in anthropology/archaeology and linguistics was that the Norse abandoned their Greenland settlements after decades of brutal raids by the Inuit. Relatively peaceful cohabitation is often replaced by expansionism and other forms of inter-tribal violence in the face of environmental changes, as we suspect happened when the Proto-Indo-European speakers who had lived around the Black Sea suddenly started migrating to all parts of what are now the Indo-European speaking world. In the case of the Norse in Greenland, they may have retreated back to their native lands in Norway instead of standing their ground in Greenland because of technological and maybe even physiological superiority of the Inuit on the fighting grounds in Greenland.

Story #2 - If you are learning to speak English please do not think that the names and titles Ty used in this story to be the correct way to pronounce them.

Really Ty, you are better educated than many of your stories seem to indicate. Can you please just stop the slaughtering?

I've had my DNA tested. I have 28% combined:Danish Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry. I guarantee there's at least one Viking in the mix. My remaining 72% is Irish, Scottish, Welsh, German, French, and Finnish.

Vikings have done anything but vanish. Being seasoned sea people they were adept at moving from area to area as needed. Extensive longhouse excavations on the Shetland and Faroe Islands reveal communities where they wintered over with their families among ragged coastlines. They left Scandinavia because farming ceased to be a possibility for their population but they maintained the know how. When they found better farming in better areas they moved. There are more of us in American than in Norway.
