Don't go to a resort if you want to meet the real cuban people! Avoid big hotels chain and support locals by staying at their home :)

...one thing is to be there as tourists, and another completely different thing is to be there trapped as a prisoner of the totalitarian system. Cuba 1965-1980, Mariel Boatlift escapee here....

Open your eyes. You will not find another place like La Habana in the country of Cuba. And that's not a good thing. The Cuban government takes care of the tourist than its own people. La Habana is a pretty door to a very dark room. A place that is run by the government and doesn't give its own people hope to strive. People who say "Wow! Cuba looks so fun! I really want to Notice that the government only lets tourists go to certain cities... Cities that are made to look nice. Go into the Cuba.... See how fun that is.
