It's a surprise and a shame that they didn't allow Lady Gaga to use her talents to their full advantage. I was under the opinion that they made it a musical because of her. I knew there would be some songs, but I didn't know it was a full-on musical. (I'm not too thrilled with that).
I agree that what made the first one so good was how dark and gritty it was.

I always said the first Joker movie could have easily just been about some guy called Arthur who never takes on the aestetic of the joker. It didn’t make it bad, it was a good movie but it clearly wasn’t made by people heavily invested in Batman, DC comics, or the Bat-verse at large. The pinned in Gotham/Batman references felt like afterthoughts pinned into place on a entirely different script. That also may have been what made the first film good, beyond a few random references and Batman character names it was kinda just doing its own thing. And that formula works like ONCE, you don’t make a sequel to it.

Great review of this movie James!! I personally think that they should’ve marketed this movie as a musical and stayed true to that and to have not been afraid to do that. It probably would not have made the movie any better but at least it would actually convey to people of what to expect before watching the movie. (And that possibly could’ve decreased the level of walk outs that this movie had too if they had only marketed the movie as a musical the entire time.)

I’m still going to get the film soundtrack to listen to though. (And I’m highly betting to myself that the songs on the soundtrack would sound much better and actually would be better if I’m not watching the movie in front of me (with these pieces being played along with the movie) and I’m just listening to the songs from the soundtrack on their own separately for fun. And yes I’m more of a visual learner.)

Otherwise, I’m probably going to wait a while to watch this movie and wait until it goes on physical media. But then again, I probably will wait a while to even watch this movie when it goes on physical media too.

I had a feeling this one wouldn’t be as decent as the first once my little sister suddenly had a huge interest in it😂😂 that girl barely knows the difference between marvel and DC lol.

And to turn the franchise from the gripping movie that was the first one to a musical? WILD. And I love musicals but idk this change never made sense to me. Thanks for keeping it REEL as always ❤

About the ending i do have a theory so here it is: I think Arthur is not the real joker that we think. That's why we had a very young Bruce Wayne in the first one to show that he is way too old to ever fight Batman in the future. This movie is called Joker but not The Joker so Joker in this movies is more of an inspiration/idea of the next inherit Joker. But that's just my theory about it if its accurate. 🤔

For me the ending doesn't work cause it had no build up. It felt out of left field for him to make that decision

"La folie pour tout le monde" would of been a better title. It's not really a sequel, just an attempt at being artsy and edgy. Total failure.

I kept thinking about why this movie was made. It goes against everything the first one set up at the end. Lasy gaga harley quinn was waisted. The musical numbers makes no sense

I feel like im drinking crazy pills, wha did people expect from this? He was obviously incarcerated atbthe end of Joker 1. He obviously wasnt going to become a stereotypical version of the iconic comic version. He was never ment to become the Joker...he was always supposed to be the inspirational of the real joker...it seems like no one gets this.

I saw the movie yesterday and ya it’s bad there are some good movie moments and great performances from the cast even some of the musical moments were good but it’s the ending that everyone hates
