You're so right, Ian! My son, who has lived in China for 12 years, is currently home in the UK—with my grandson— and people are shocked when he tells them what China is really like. One person said, 'So what we're being told in the media is all lies then!' Channels like yours do a good job—and I find a site like Consortium News very helpful—real journalists who do not just do as they're told in the West, but actually report independently —at some risk to themselves—AND have to rely on donations rather than a salary. The media is heavily manipulated, when I worked on a agricultural magazine as an editor I had the opportunity to interview Michael Gove. I had to submit my questions beforehand, and I was basically told which ones I was allowed to ask. At the time Brexit was the big issue and questions around how leave would damage UK farming were categorically not allowed.

The publication owner was pro-Brexit and told me not to publish articles that were pro-stay and only publish leave articles that were positive, even if I had to spin the story. I refused to do so as editor, and would only publish balanced articles about Brexit.

I heard from other writers/journalists that they weren't allowed to publish some facts/stories about leaving the EU.

So yeah the media is heavily manipulated, the owners, government and even by journalists themselves.

I'm still convinced the smear campaign against Jeremy Corbyn has the intelligence services sticky mits all over it. The last thing the elites would want is a true socialists government.

Being a Scottish born Chinese, i used to believe the BBC and their reports on China and naively feel more fortunate than those living in China. I felt that i am superior to them!

Things have turned around for China after they suffered at the gands of foreign powers and it would be wishful thinking if the UK government did 10% of what the Chinese government has done for their people.

We are paying more taxes and seeing less spent on the public.

There was a recent presentation on UK tv by Brian Cox (Scottish actor who made it big in the US in films like the Bourne Identity) who revisited his childhood in Scotland & compared it with the high net worth people in the US. His continued observation was one of bafflement & sense of social injustice at the inequality & deprivation in the West, constantly asking 'Why?'.
It never occurred to him to look further into other regimes.

I used to watch BBC and CNN. Now I completely stopped getting any news from these mainstream stations! I think citizen YouTubers are better conveyers of truth! Keep up your good work. Cheers from Singapore!

I don’t care where you guys go, but the feeling that the US is in decline with its lifestyle and the increasing cost of everything. Things aren’t going so well with the US. Everyday I go to work and see my coworkers working two or three jobs a day, my mind just keeps telling me to find somewhere else that is better. It is so depressing to find people living a lifestyle of having two or more jobs to keep themselves sustainable to pay off rent and basic living. Employers would rather pay you North Korean wages or have an idea to pay you less in anyway to keep up with the business.

I loved my time in Beijing and I can't wait to travel there again. Sadly I didn't visit the art district even though it was on my list to visit. Everyone should visit China once and my little advice. Use Novotel hotels which I use all the time they are great in China. Especially the one close to Forbidden City. just a five min walk away...Novotel Peace

the late han rosling once stated, that the opinion of today generation is based on the reality of their teacher's teacher time. he was referring to how his univerity student would believe what separate the west from the world is low birthrate and high life expentency. which is of course true, 2 generation ago. there is a lag because most people get their information from 2nd and 3rd hand account, reading book publish decade ago. China is simply moving too fast for most people to understand what is going on.
