Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 in 2022 - Still Worth It?

In this video I take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 that was released in 2019. This is the version without S Pen. Is it still worth it?

Using this tablet as my main device for 1year & 2months, a big phone and a small tablet without any case. I got a few drops and a few micro scratches but Samsung built this tablet very well and the plastic rails around the side frame of the tablet holds up tremendously well by absorbing drops without denting up like aluminium or scuffing like steel. The back which is matte aluminium needs a better coating though, it's a bit slippery and not so fingerprint resistive as I thought. The only thing I'd want now since this is my do it all device is to have atleast 10% more brightness, a 8000mAh battery. The 5100mAh battery is supreme on this with long life but when it's out doors the screen brightness demands much more power than when in doors, so instead of the battery lasting a good 3 days without charge, it would only last 1.5 day and I've seen samsung putting huge 7000mAh battery in their M series phone so why not in a 8 inch tablet? The performance power is some what unpredictable to the point where I think it's either some apps are not perfectly optimised for the snapdragon chipset or the chipset just lacks some power. Sometimes I think its both. This where samsung needs to introduce a higher tier tab A series like a tab A 72 with an 8+ inch and 11 inch spen compatible tablet with atleast 30% more power for performance than this tab a8.0. Sometimes the tablet is very smooth sometimes not, it used to be pretty smooth on the 2nd to last update before android 11, on android 11 it claimed a better ram performance but I can't attest to that, it still can't run more than 3 light apps without stuttering up the ui. If the tab A7 lite was s pen compatible then I would upgrade since the performance is a little better on that newer version however the brightness is lower and that's a no no. Also the snapdragon 429 chipset here on this tab a8.0 is more efficient than powerful so it never overheats or consume much battery at all. With the screen in the dimmest environment the battery will only drop by 1% every 12 or 17 minutes which makes it feel like the screen alone is hogging up the battery life. When working deeply in one or app alone the tablet is at its smoothest performance. Kinda wished they gave us an update to limit battery charge to 80% though like on the tab A7 lite which is on the same ONE UI as this.

Been using this tablet since 2019 and currently watching this video on it right now. Tablet is in brand new condition mostly because I've taken care of it so well.

I've had this tablet since early 2020. Pros: cheap price, screen looks good, battery life still good!, size is good for reading. Cons: slow processor is annoying. Ithad so much lag, I turned off animations in settings to make it useable. That did help, it can be very sluggish at times, I also clear out the cache in Apps (Chrome, Youtube etc). Doing this now and then keeps the device useable.

I have a 2018 iPad too, its a better device overall, it was far more expensive though, and doesn't have the dual SIM and SD card feature (this would've made the iPad even more expensive to have a SIM version). The other thing I don't like is the dated micro USB port but this doesn't annoy me enough to upgrade. The other negative in 2024 is security updates have stopped, last update was May 2023.

Got this tab when it released, it does lag somethings especially when I turn on the WiFi, I do game on this tab and big games like pubg work really well! Using this as my main device as I am a kid, dropped it a lot of time but still only a few small scratches on the screen. Really love it 😀 getting an iohone for my bday next month really exited.

I still have it from early 2020s and I can say android 11 update made it's performance increase upto 30% (compared to 10 or 9) but still, it's performance per price is great.

I don't know why Samsung doesn't make a high quality 8 inch tablet. I have the Tab S7, but it is too large for many uses.

I have this tablet, found it very slow and laggy, almost unusable. I turned off visual enhancement in under Accessability in Settings, runs much faster now!

I like a tablet to be used as phone as well like this but better memory ram and resolution. I do not like mobile phones are to small and i have problem with my eyes. Any ohter good company like sumsung as phone-tablet?

Iam using it from 2019-23 still works smooth and nice

Had bought Samsung galaxy Tab A SM-T355Y in 2016, still works smoothly in 2022. No issues as such.
