What are some helpful resources you used to learn skills for cyber security? 🤓 💻 It's been a busy weekend but I'm glad I got this video up on time LOL.. hope this was helpful to anyone starting out and looking for resources! :)

I never did a day of a help desk job or came from an IT background. I started as a Cybersecurity Analyst but I did have 20yrs in the Army and was a self-taught ethical hacker with Kali Linux, UNIX, and OS Patriot tools. I started mastering Firewalls, NMAPs, Wire Shark, Metaplosit, Snort, Splunk, and other security tools. I guess being in the military with a TS Clearance helped, but it's def possible to get a cybersecurity role with no experience if you have the right skills. When I worked in a SOC it was a bunch of mid-20 year olds coming to me for help, I was def in charge and the leader after a few weeks lol.

Hey Sandra! I recently found your videos, and I can't say enough how great they have been as I'm looking at transitioning into cyber security. Currently, I'm a contractor working as an all source Intel Analyst. I don't really want to work as a Cyber security intel analyst though so I'm looking at the best way to get into a SOC or pen tester position. I'm able to use my GI bill to attend college; however that will take a lot longer since I have to work to maintain my clearance. There's also some programs for veterans to get free training, but that seems to be mostly prepping you for different certifications.

If I did get my certifications and supplemented it with personal projects like homelabs and hacking projects would I be able to get into a SOC position, or would I have to go into a help desk spot first? Thank you again for all the videos you put out on getting into the cyber world!
