In New York City's Chinatown, a hard-tempered, smoke-happy and recently widowed grandmother in her eighties is determined to start a new life as an independent woman, but her son is worried and wants her to move in with his family in a high-class residential area of Brooklyn. A fortune-teller near her home said with a straight face that she would have good luck in the future, so she decided to hop on a bus and head straight for the casino. She lost at the table, but on her way home on the bus, a large bag of money fell into her lap, and she simply took it home with her. This incident aroused the covetousness of the local mafia, so Grandma had to hire a personal bodyguard to protect herself, and thus became involved in the local gang feud.
