This resonates so hard!! I'm currently in college and haven't had access to a wheel since high school 😢

That's so true for any artist "I'll keep doing this until my hands fall off"

My son is a freshman and in a ceramics class. He LOVES it. He's always been hard on himself about feeling that he wasn't able to find an art that he enjoyed or felt he was good at doing. Personally, I think he's great at everything. We found your channel several months ago and your account and videos are one of the reasons he decided to go into ceramics. He's finally found something he really loves and that's everything to me. Happy teen happy mom 😂

Do you have any suggestions for a decent brand/pottery wheel that you'd suggest? We (my entire family lol) are going to get him a wheel, clay and accessories for his "big" Christmas gift.

I'm currently renovating our mudroom and creating a specific area for him to have a nice space for a wheel, store clay and have storage shelves for his pieces to go on. He walks through that room nearly every day and has no idea that's what I'm doing. He just thinks I'm making more space for houseplants. 😂😂

Your ability to consistently replicate is the most sought after skill

Took my first throwing class recently and found a studio thatll let me use their wheel and kiln. Already looking into buying a wheel in the next few months. Loving it.

I absolutely loved the wheel the first time I sat down and the clay started to turn under my hands. I’ll never forget the instructor who realized I needed to FEEL what she meant when she was describing the pressure needed — added LOTS more water to the piece at first — then cupped her hands around mine and SHOWED me what she meant. Instantly, I was like, OH! And after that it was a brilliant experience. I miss that class.

I love pottery, in school we'd bring clay and make coil pots I've only been at a wheel once and I prefer the other clay making small trinkets but totally love watching the formations at the wheel

in uni right now and not having access to a wheel is a gut wrenching feeling. i pay 50k a year and there’s not ONE wheel on campus??!, !? i’m going to lose my mind. closest open studio is 45m away and 300$ 🫠🫠 don’t know how i’m gonna survive

I’m currently taking a ceramics class in school, and I hated the wheel. My teacher had the class split in half, so while one half was working on the wheels, the other half would be hand building. I was put into the hand building group, so I didn’t immediately try out the wheel. When it was finally time to start my first project, I hated the wheel. I felt so out of control and could never get the clay centered. Even after the teacher helped me, I couldn’t get it. We did another hand building project, and then was asked to make a bowl on the wheel. I made a decent bowl, but ruined it when I tried to cut it off the wheel. The next day, I struggled to make anything, and the day after that. The last day to work on the bowl, it finally clicked. I made two great bowls. I kept one and recycled the other one since I ruined it when trimming it. I’m still not confident on the wheel, but I’m not totally stressed the whole time. I’m hoping my next wheel project will go a bit more smoothly.

Just a question: Do you study other artists? Like are you familiar with Shoji Hamada, George Ohr, Charles Smith, Bernard Leach? I'm a massive fan of all ceramics, and I collect. I'm deadly at hand building, but I've only had access to a wheel twice. (live in a tiny cottage in an historic district, so no studio for me.) I guess I'm wondering what your inspirations are, what you love in other potter's work?

The biggest high school regret I have is not taking pottery class 💔 all four years of high school, and I didn’t take even one pottery class. Now I’m wanting to try it out!!

No because i just learned and i spend every lunch period either throwing, trimming, or glazing. It took me 4 try to get a decent bowl and km finally getting better at it

Putting it down here because im not tryna advertise but i have photos of the bowls on my channel if yall wanna see my progress ♡
