The TS-100 shines with a chisel tip. I would never desolder with the tip you are using. They also have a 3rd party firmware that enables the iron to go to 450 degrees Celsius. With this firmware the iron is a beast. This modded iron with a D24 tip can perform harder tasks than my HAKKO FX100 station and in total is a 5th of the price. Thanks for the review

Add new solder when desoldering. Plus, you are using a pencil tip for a large joint. They are not meant for that.

@18:44 adding some fresh (leaded) solder is always a good idea before trying to heat a joint like that, it will allow you to have better thermal coupling to transfer that heat to the solder joint. I think that even with a higher power soldering iron you would see the same effect if there isn't good thermal coupling.

Good you covered the grounding. they are selling the TS80 with an isolated two prong supply and ground clip. Would be easy to forget the ground clip and blow some ICs.

I use mine with one of my xmaxx batteries 4s lipo at 6000 mah works great and i just did the math and its nearly 3 hours of use on that battery. I still leave my main soldering station sitting on the bench cause lets face it they are geek chic. but this little tool is amazing.

Nice, you are the first one to show desoldering, unless i missed someone else from all those reviews i have seen, there are larger tips for TS100 but for some reason NONE OF YOU TESTED ANY OF THEM, WHOLE YOUTUBE! COUNTLESS VIDEOS!... Louis Rossmann actually recommended 2 large tips, i have an order from Banggood arriving very soon... expecting tomorrow actually, i have also bought those 2 tips with it (TS-KU & TS-C4), i really want to see their performance on desoldering :D

Great channel Terry, I just subscribed. I am sure I will learn a lot from you. By the way, I think 400 degrees C would have melted that solder without lifting pads, if you are not holding it too long on the joint. But yeah, a chisel tip too as you know. Thanks for the great tips.

@ 5:40 the current increases with the higher voltage, is you look at the chart for the wattage to voltage and calculate the currents, it is about 2.7A at 24V, is only 1.7A for 12V.

@ 11:20 the jumping around only seemed to occur on the very first heat up, after that it was OK, did you heat it up once before recording ?

great video!, hey, a bit off topic, This may be something you would like to do a video on. I have always wondered how those Old-school storage CRT's worked. I used them back in the day (I'm old) and never gave it a thought. Now I'm building a lab and can't afford all new equipment, so I pick up 2 HP spectrum analyzers for stuff above 8 GHz to about 25 GHz, got them both working and they have the storage CRT's in them. They work great, but I never knew how they worked.

banggood is not selling this any longer, any place I can get one? I've seen a couple in Amazon but they're all like different brands, don't know if that matters

I think I will stick with my old Weller but for $3.17 Canadian I suppose I could keep one around. Could put long leads on it and keep it in the car tool kit for those back country repairs.

Not another one... lol. I did a review on one of these too a few months ago, also sent to me by Banggood.

Its a toy. IF u want to solder more and better, buy a proper soldering station (not from China)

EEVblog members can do better with an Accudrive ADS200 from TEquipment for 206 usd. It's 120 watts, thinner, stays cool all day, and has tips that last decades (not months). Tip-to-grip distance is flat-out 3 times better at 1.5 inches. There's 50 different tip types (10 bucks each) and hot tweezers arrive in October. Also, the handle can go portable at 12 volts with 32 watts.
