🟢Talent Gap and Upskilling: Bridging the Divide

The industry faces a glaring talent gap of approximately 1 million skilled professionals. However, this presents a golden opportunity for job seekers to bridge this gap by acquiring in-demand skills.

To make up for the global hiring slowdown, these institutes have also considered potential new startups for early slots, says Rajib Maity, Chairperson of the Career Development Centre at IIT-Kharagpur. However, not without a vetting process. IIT Guwahati’s Lalit Pandey says that startups in the financial and software domain with sound funding, competitive salaries, and challenging roles are making the cut.

Companies visiting the campuses include Deliveroo, Skiify, and Headout. Also visiting the IIT-Delhi and IIT-Madras campuses is aerospace manufacturing startup Agnikul. Its Chief executive Srinath Ravichandran shares that they are offering flexible packages, ranging as high as ₹20 lakh.

Indus Insights is planning to increase the freshers intake from IITs by 20% compared to the previous year, says co-founder Neha Sharma. Chaabi’s CEO Puneet Dhiman shares that students are keen on startups that tackle challenges and provide learning opportunities.

Another report by the publication states that the acceptance rate for pre-placement offers (PPOs) at the IITs also increased this year. Cisco, Oracle, Intuit, Goldman Sachs, and P&G are among the companies offering PPOs, the report adds.

The highest offer at IIT-Guwahati stood at ₹1.1 crore and the institute observed a 10% increase in the number of recruiters this year, shares Head of the Centre for Career Development Lalit Mohan Pandey.

They don’t pay even 15k during training period, they terminate immediately. Even customer support is offering 18k atleast we get our taste of first salary soon. If students get onboarded even then they are never going to get their 1st pay perhaps even after a month of employment.
It’s a heads up for jobseeking grads to look elsewhere than in Cognizant!!

Boycott cognizant! Please don't fall for their cheap tactics! Other companies are hiring, so keep looking and don't fall for your parents' advice, It is better to be unemployed than work for a chindi chor company.

This was the starting salary I got as a software developer 17 yrs back.So sad to see IT service giants like cognizant doing these. Rupee value has decreased and they are unaware of the inflation?? How can people manage the expense in our metros with this kind of salary? This is the ctc. After variable pay and other deductions, how much do they get in hand? So sad our labour laws are so flawed. If you work as a floor manager in any retail store, you earn 15 k per month without any degree. So sad!!!No wonder all youngsters want to move abroad. They can't be blamed at all.

In 2011, my salary was 2.5 LPA. Now it is 40 LPA. Same company. But not Cognizant obviously....

Software job growth is different. Even if they offer 2.5 LPA, I will join for the development of my skills in the respective domain. As you know, after 2 to 3 years, it may be possible to switch to another company with a better package. But this largely depends on the candidate's learning curve, adaptability, and skill set. Nowadays, getting a job is very difficult. So, it's important to join any company and gain experience and skills. This will be beneficial for both the company and yourself. It's always a win-win situation!🎉
