That kid is lucky to have a chance to talk to Spielberg face to face. I would have so many questions for him.

I love that he talks to the kid in a respectful tone and not a condescending "oh, isn't that cute, you want to make movies" attitude

This is great advice for just about any profession. Committing to taking the first step, no matter your starting point, is a great lesson.

Just make movies! Don't worry about whether it might be good or bad, just keep doing it and you will learn and improve each time you do it. I tell the same thing to people who want to make games. They ask "How do I get hired at a game company?" The answer is "First, make some games." Don't worry if your work isn't professional quality and good enough to get you hired ... just keep doing it and you will gain the experience you need. So many people put the cart before the horse and think that they need money and equipment to succeed. Don't worry about success. Just start doing it first and worry about success later. One step at a time - you have to learn to crawl before you can walk, before you can run.

Damien, Thank you for asking this question. Steven Spielberg, thank you for answering this question. I will show this to my daughter who is already making her own films at 9 years old.

Really love that he just responded normally, hate when adults talk to kids in a condescending way

It's no longer the tools that are the limitation, it is imagination and writing skills

This really makes me feel better! I've got small dreams of becoming some kind of film maker/actor one day, (it's a small dream and I don't actually see it happening but i still like to think it.)

Really, this!

The only reason I have any skill whatsover today, was because I started creating when I was 13.

Accept the goofiness and the fact it'll suck.

Trust me, you'll get better🔥

I wish it was that simple as Steven made it seemed. Even in this time it's tough.

That is true but it is far more concurrency and due to amount of people can do that you can be easily overlooked even if you are good.
