I knew a guy from work who was diabetic and picked at his calluses and dead skin like this... Long story short, he nicked the skin and left the cut untreated and before he knew, his foot got infected and the doctor told him they had to amputate... He woke up after the surgery, and he was told the gang green had spread up to his leg and they had to cut his entire leg off.
