Family Camping | New Camping Gear Tested, Tips & Tent Set Up

Join us as we show you our tent set up & new camping gear on our family camping trip. This year we have bought some great new bits of camping equipment. Did they help us, and were they worth the money we paid?
We spent 7 nights at the beautiful Globe Vale Holiday park in Redruth, Cornwall. We used our time wisely and decided to put our new gear to the test to see what they were like.

Our camping gear for this year includes:
- Portable folding fire pit – There are lots of firepits available on the market, but all others are quite big. We simply do not have the space to fit a luxury item in our car. So, we purchased ours from Amazon for about £16. You will see on the video Scott was very dubious that this would be a success. But he could not have been more wrong. This was a great bit of camping gear. We used it with the instant fire logs that can be bought in most supermarkets, and we were really blown away about how useful it was. Weighing about a kilo or two and folding up to about 10inches by 3 inches, if you need a space saving firepit – this is the one top buy. After 7 nights it was still in perfect condition, and we rate it a 9/10!

- Quest Griddle – We have the quest oscillating fan, so we know that Quest is a brand you can rely on. And it did not let us down. This great griddle is smaller than others such as the Vango scram, but it did the job just fine. Easy to clean, great to cook on and quite cheap at £40 from Go Outdoors. Another great item for camping that we rate a 9 /10!

- Eurohike Lazy lounger – Well, what can we say about the lazy lounger. Unbeknown to Scott when he bought it, it is a self-inflatable i.e., you have to inflate manually using fresh air. And when there is no wind, this is not possible. On day 5, we managed to actually get some air in there. It lasted about 10 minutes with Scott sat in it and about 45 when the lighter children lay on it. To be fair, had Scott read the instructions before buying it, we should have known, so we cannot be too harsh with the scores, but overall, for something that cost £17 (GoOutdoors members price) we were not that impressed. As a butterfly net 9 /10, as a lazy lounger 3/10.

- A water dispenser – This is a great gadget. Charged up via USB, it lasted us all week on one charge. It fitted on the top of a 10-water container and was great for dispensing water. No more spills or puddles in your tent. Kids loved it, we found it very useful & at £10 from Amazon, we could not complain, 9/10.

- Vango sofa – We compare this to the Outdoor Revolution sofa, which we also have. Now great for kids and one adult it is, but not for two adults. Filled with a lot of air it does become more stable, and it was OK for the week. These cost about £40 as opposed to the Outdoor Revolution sofa which is in region of £100. So, half the price. We scored this a 6 /10, against the outdoor Revolution 9 out of 10. You do get what you pay for…

- Lanterns and lights – Lights either work or do not. And overall out of all the ones we tried the best we found was the Hi-Gear Cob 450 Lumen Camp Lantern. We bought this from GoOutdoors for £15. It can be hung upside via hook on the bottom, so great for out tent & it did give off the most light. 8 /10

- A Portable charging station – We tested the Allpowers portable power station. We did find it to be very useful. It is bigger than your average phone charging unit, but last blooming ages once charged. We used it for tablets, lights and phones. It even has wireless charging on the top, allowing you to charge 5 items at once, which we sometimes did. A big 8 out 10.

In addition, of course we still have all our favourites from last year, including the portaloo for kids.
We have the Vango table and chairs dining set. They are a bit pricey, (Approximately £90 from GoOutdoors), they are a great buy.
We also have 2 inflatable chairs that we bought for our very first camping trip and the kids love – £15 each from Morrisons
We have the 2 Yawn Airbeds – We love these. A lot of people try them and do not like them or say they go down. But we have not had any problems. The trick with these as with all inflatable camping items is to only inflate them to about 90%. This allows for a bit of expansion in hot weather & for the children to jump on them.

We have a Vango Casa Lux 7 berth tent, which is now in its 3rd year. It has never let us down and we love it. But, when we looked about at all the stunning Air tents in the field we did feel like maybe it will be time to move on. Who knows, what next year will bring? Any recommendations?

Great video, I also too brought that cheap amazon fire pit.. It's absolutely fantastic it really is a beast and gets alot of postive comments/attention.. Only thing to be nit picky is the nuts come loose but I'm sure there is a way it could be modified I just remember to tighten nuts before and after use... As for tents we have brought the Vango stargrove ii tc 600xl air beam.. TC stands for technical cotton.. Its a poly cotton material and therefore an upgrade on the typical polyester tents.. From the research I've done apparently it has a lifespan 3 times longer than a polyester tent also to note it's considerably cooler in hot weather vs polyester I think that's a game changer however its still warm but you can notice the difference.. Most of all it's the ease of setting up.. We erect our tent In 10 minutes give or take it really is the future. Same for packing away it takes no time at all... They have rebranded the stargrove line and now called it lismore but it's practically the same as the stargrove... Generally any airbeam tent I would highly recommend. Keep up the great content and will look forward to the next video 📹

For battery lights I’d recommend Quechua. Good light, good price. But if you’re regularly camping with EHU, we’ve got a Kampa collapsible light that id highly recommended. We’ve also got the same fire pit but haven’t been able to use it yet as we’ve only visited camping/caravan club sites that don’t allow open fires. Another good camping vlog. 👍🏻 🏕

Great video, we get through so many lights, not many are very good. We found usb rope lights to be perfect for inside the tent. GET a projector best thing I ever purchased, especially for the later months when it's darker at night. We set it up outside for my daughter and any friends she makes. So they can all chill with a film when they all need to calm down a bit after a manic day running around. Great video.

Really helpful, we're shopping for a tent to take us and 3 kids away, though when we look at 8 berth they look more like 5 when you add air beds.

New sub and just bought the firepit on your recommendation. Cant help but think by the time you add all those together you could get a trailer tent / caravan to have permanent fixtures. Love the channel and camping tho. Style is excellent
