That's a very special fungus they grow. Queens are born with fungal spores so they can start producing food as well as eggs when they get older. Leaf cutters are my favorite ant species.

Man i remember as a kid i thought i was tripping when i saw what thought what a giant ant but now, 20ish years later, i think i just happened to spot a queen outside for a split second before gtfo the area. That's wild. Guess you learn something new everyday day. Thanks for that im never going near a ant hill again x'D
