"Where did they get Floor?"
I'm convinced Tuomas made a sacrifice to Odin 😉

Just for yourself, watch the Tampere version of this song. It's basically their home turf and they pull out all the stops. You will be amazed at what they do with the show. No Dawkins live but the show is astounding. Keep in mind that Tuomas wrote everything for this including the orchestration.

My favourite part of the song? The bit between the beginning and the end!

The whole song, as it goes through the beginning of time, to human evolution and it’s self destruction, to the beautiful message about cherishing the life we have, and we’re lucky that we get to die, because we were lucky to be born. This is a masterpiece from beginning to end 💖

The fact that Floor belts out with such power on the LAST song of the setlist is beyond amazing

Now go watch the version from Tampere in 2015 - it was their 20th anniversary concert in front of their hometown crowd so they loaded up on the pyrotechnics, plus Floor's parents were in the crowd. The sound is much better on that version - this version always seems a bit muddy and dark. If you do, watch it all the way to the end of the credits.

Where they got Floor... Well her band had broken up, she was recovering from burn out and she was literaly in her sister's weddings. That's when they called her and asked "We are in middle of world tour and need singer, could you learn setlist in 48 hours?" oh and fly from Netherlands to Seattle while learning setlist. And she agreed... 😅

I loved how Tuomas incorporated the evolution of music as well. So brilliant!

Nightwish Army USA Wisconsin Chapter here and 19 year Nightwish fan ... John, I really enjoy your breakdowns and facial expressions when watching the "Genius" of Tuomas Holopainen and Nightwish . Very happy you chose to enter the Rabbit hole and join us all in enjoying their masterpieces . I dont have a favorite part of this song to be honest , its all epic to me .. the evolution of the universe, the evolution of earth, the evolution of man, and the evolution of music all in a 20 minute song : This is one of Tuomas and Nightwish's Big 3 epic Tales . Keep watching, there is plenty more to delve into . The more you watch them, the more you understand why Tuomas IS The Metal Mozart !!! Looking forward to your next nightwish enjoyment, until then, take care .

I have been a lifelong Pink Floyd fan for 49 of my 57 years and will always be, but that track has rocketed up to become my most favourite track of all time.
The passion showed by the band for that work of art is second to none and the talent of everyone involved is unparalleled by anyone in the modern world.
Floor Jansen is such a great singer with such an amazing range 😍
Thanks for sharing

He uses an e-bow, you can see it when they perform "while your lips are still red" in the same concert. Also the guy with the ebow is not the main guitarist, he's the guy playing the pipes

I think the Tampere 2015 performance of this song was even better. It doesn't have the E-Bow, though because Troy uses different instuments there. Everybody in Nightwish uses only one instrument except Troy that seems to be able to play any instrument known to man and in addition he sings, too.

the rumour is Floor is actually Odins gatherer of souls. She came down to collect a few, got distracted and now sings in a band instead. Shes captured millions of souls since!

I just had it playing in the delivery room lol I wasn’t at the concert and then went into labor, just to be clear😂

There are so many “hidden gems” that Tuomas included in the lyrics & the music.
17:00 The musical tributes start with some African tribal drumming, then through the Gregorian chant in Dies Irae (Mozart), Bach’s Minuet in G Major followed by his famous Fugue in D Minor, followed by American banjo music, Metallica’s Enter Sandman riff (!!!), finally ending in Rap/Hip-Hop and 90s dance music.
Pretty Good isn’t it?!!

This is not a master piece. This is THE master piece

As much as folks recommend the Tampere version, the intro played by Troy is completely different here and having watched the other a bunch this is really cool.
