The 18th Lok Sabha Elections are about to wrap up, with the final phase happening on June 1st and the results coming out on June 4th. As the election nears its end, there's a lot of buzz about exit polls. Many political research agencies and TV news channels are gearing up to bring what they claim to be the "most accurate" predictions on vote shares, seats, parties, and candidates. But what exactly is an exit poll, why is it conducted, and how does it work? Let’s break it down. Exit polls are surveys conducted right after people finish voting. These polls help predict election outcomes before the official results are announced. They’re important because they give us insights into how people voted and why. Even though they’re not always accurate, they can provide valuable clues about voters' preferences and motivations.

Exit polls are mostly wrong and will always predict that the ruling party has the advantage. We know, in 2004, all exit polls gave a great advantage to the BJP, but it turned out to be the opposite, and UPA ruled for ten years!
