Hyperspin-Save GB with Symlinks and create classic wheels!

This method is an excellent way to save on storage when you need to use the same media but for different folders. The best examples that come to mind is mame classic wheels like the atari classics, capcom classics, etc. Another good example of creating symlinks is when you set up 3D NES since all the media will be the same as the NES wheel.

Step 1: Review my notes below. These are the folders that you will potentially want to create system links

Step 2: Remember that if you rename anything in the symlink folders, it will rename the folder its connected to. If you delete the folder that has a link attached to it, it wont impact the original folder though. Note that also the folder you are trying to create a link for cannot exist, else you will get an error message stating so in the cmd prompt

Step 3: open CMD by right clicking it and select run as admin

Step 4: Paste in the paths above (replacing it with your drive,path) and press enter

NOTE: I made a program that moves roms from one drive to another using SymLinks and the ROMS do NOT work off of Symlinks. I was just going to test the media, and it's great timing... thanks for confirming Planet Geekdom! Symlinks are awesome.

Huge Thanks Ninja, Really works great - Quick question. Setting up media for a collection wheel with different locations. Since I can't set up symbolic links from multiple location to the same "Video" folder (Or can I?). If not would you suggest using Fat Match, or something else, to locate the different video's or another app. appreciate any suggestion. Thanks, Marty

Thanks for the video... I did do this for the classics wheels pertaining hypermarquee... but we End up only be able to use 1 default marquee image for any wheel that doesn’t have its own Mame marquee...

i have a favorites wheel with different consoles, how do i link those, at the moment ive just copied them into one folder, Cheers.

I had to add a extra mklink to create the images folder.mklink /D "X:\hyperspin\Media\Atari Classics\Images"          but when you select Atari Classics as a example in hyperspin, I get the Mame default Theme, any ideas how to fix this
