that percentages quote is AMAZING. i need to watch the alien movies now

anyways space was only ever not scary if you never understood what space was. even as a kid space scared me. the fact that most people dont have a healthy fear of space, like being afraid of falling off a cliff, is crazy to me

It's a truly terrifying cinematic experience indeed, in the way that it's truly terrifying how you can film a movie with no plot, no memorable characters (sans one), no inspiration and no originality for $80M.

I remember playing dead space on my friends pc and it was the perfect example of how frightening space can be.

The horror of space is that there might not be a home to return to soon.

I think my issue with later Alien movies, and the Prometheus prequels in particular, is they have been more interested in world building and fleshing out lore, than actually making any social commentary. That's what made Alien and its 70s/80s ilk so powerful. Now these movies have just become about the same commercialisation they once criticised.

Hopefully Romulus corrects that.

"i dont know what species is worse, you dont see them fucking each other over for a percentage" is one of my favourite lines in the alien movies because when you really think about it, every single time we encounter a xenomorph its due to humanities greed, we are basically asking to be killed for riches

Can totally see Elon shipping himself off in a cryo chamber to meet aliens, Prometheus style.

Cool Fact: "Neil A Armstrong" was the first person to step on the moon. "Neil A" spelled backwards, is "Alien"

Lovecraft and Cosmic Horror will forever be my favorite type of fear. Mainly just due to the genre's ability to come up with the most wild concepts imaginable.

In shows like Star Trek and Star Wars, the aliens are about as alien as meeting someone from a foreign country. Harmony and understanding can be achieved with an open-minded discussion and a universal translator to get you over the language barrier.
H. P. Lovecraft and the Alien franchise shows what it would be like to encounter beings that do not merely have a different culture. They are not us in ANY sense. They are so different that we have no way to grasp their motives, how they see the world, or how they see us. True aliens.

The Three Body Problem articulates this fear perfectly. The universe is a dark forest, and those that make themselves known to other races end up being annihilated.

One interesting insight my mother gave me is when Ripley face-off against the queen it is about two mothers protecting their young.

Interesting that the series goes from that oral "assault" on a male in the first movie to Prometheus, which has the lady host get an autodoc to perform a "cesarean" (the word used in the script) to remove the parasite, rather than removing a tumor or anything like that. In Romulus, there's literally a pregnant lady that is relevant to the plot (in a way which I won't spoil since the movie just came out).

I really wanted every human character to get infected and the rest of the movie would be a rush to get to a surgery pod and remove the alien
