In theoretical physics, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory of strong interactions, a fundamental force describing the interactions between quarks and gluons which make up hadrons such as the proton, neutron and pion. David Gross was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics.

The earliest written record of the atomic theory (everything is made of tiny parts making the whole) comes to us from Charvaka 700 bc (?). The idea may not have been his, and might have been someone else.

Since energy and mass are relatable, the energy coverts to what you call partons
( virtual quark antiquark pairs) inside the nucleons ( wether up down charm strange top or bottom)
