Geoff and Alex - We’re two Americans living abroad in Berlin, Germany!

We both moved abroad separately to Germany over 10 years ago. After years of learning German, planting roots in our new home and navigating culture shock, we met through happenstance. Eventually, we created the Americans in Germany Drinking Whiskey Podcast.

Now we’re here on YouTube releasing a video each week! We discuss the differences between daily life in Germany and the USA, give advice to those who are hoping to make the move abroad and share plenty of funny stories and weird knowledge about being an expat in Germany. Along the way, we drink a new bottle of whiskey in each video. Why? We think, why not.

Love the videos so far! They look great! I will say, I do miss the little weekly updates that you would each share at the beginning of the podcast though!

Great info guys... We are 3 Adult travellers (From Australia) who will be visiting Germany thru December/Jan this year, we will be arriving from Paris into Munich (already purchused that one), we are looking at staying in Munich then to Nuremberg onto Dresden then Berlin, with a few day trips thrown in, do I understand from your post that the Deutschland-Ticket would cover ALL train travel between the cities we are going to be visiting, we also intend doing a couple of one day trips outside the mentioned cities, again great work... Just doing the homework, noticed that its not valid on ICE/IC trains

the part about the digital signage is not entirely true.
its just that the older u-bahn train models, such as these also present in north korea, are still being used in berlin, especially in the east and the monitors they have are a rather recent addition. thing is, that mainly goes for the u-bahn and a part of its fleet. the s-bahn has digital screens since the 80's and the hk series of u-bahn trains, that came with monitors installed, was introduced in 2001.
despite that, great video guys. i am also loving the public transportation here and i am always dissapointed when i come to a city that has an inferior one.

Is there also the "Nachttaxi für Frauen" /"Night Taxi for Women" in Berlin ? Some bigger towns have that. Between 22.00h and 06.00h (if I remember well) women can use a taxi for the price of a bus ticket to travel safely.

The size of the U-Bahn does not directly connect to the age

Viennese here...When did you live in Vienna?
I´m honestly now a bit confused about your statement because you really do not look that old, and I say that BECAUSE our U-Bahn does run 24h on weekends and holidays since 2010 with 15 minutes intervall between 1am till 5am, that is for 13 years now ...besides - that there is - a daily - Nightbus Service reaching every single district in Vienna since 1990 with 30 minutes intervall between 1am till 5am, that is for over 30 years between 2020-21 there was no Nightservice because of Covid where every Nightlife activities were closed anyway at that pandemic time.

So either you lived in Vienna only and solely during the pandemic or you are actually a very old guy but with a tremendous well done plastic surgery face lift.
