I highly disagree with OFF Mode being useless. It's the primary reason why HAWX is the arcade flight sim I play the most for gameplay reasons. The problem with the typical arcade flight sim is that because your plane is constantly moving, and so is all the enemies you're facing, if you end up getting closer range, enemies keep flying offscreen and you spend a lot of time either turning around in circles chasing some offscreen triangle or have to disengage, fly further away, and then turn around in order to see everything clearly.

With OFF Mode, the camera locks onto the plane you're targeting, so you always know exactly where it is (the pulled out camera angle also helps give you greater situational awareness of everything going around you), and you can turn much, much quicker, meaning close range dogfights are much more viable. This is the same problem Assault Horizon tried to address with the DFM, but did so much worse.

I actually consider the pulled out camera angle essential as well, because while you can pull off high g turns in Ace Combat, it's still harder to keep track of enemies in close range because the camera is so close to the plane. With a wider view of what's going on, you can more easily keep track of enemy planes flying around, and therefore know how best to target them.

I loved Hawx. Your wingmen actually HELPED you; there was no holding back or nervous breakdowns with Crenshaw's boys LOL.

I only read one Tom Clancy novel. In the final chase sequence the hero stopped to make a pot of coffee, and thought at length about how you just can't beat a good cup o' joe. That book was made into a movie starring Harrison Ford.

There's also a mod floating around, that adds some Console exclusive planes (like the MiG-23, Viggen and Draken) to the PC version, but it's bugged and doesn't let you select those planes to play

The HAWX campaign truly was nothing special, but the multiplayer had me hooked. It's one of the few multiplayer games where I was well above average in skill.

2. Planes can carry more than one special weapon
