I can't believe you didn't mention the legendary Skip Pitts from DC who came up with the Shaft guitar part! That's him in the clip you showed. One of my all time favorites. You can see how cool he was - always smiling!
He also played those funky lines in Its Your Thing by the Isley Brothers. And you can hear him on Gene Chandler's live version of Rainbow recorded at the Regal Theater in Chicago. Skip is literally carrying the song. He was around 18 when he played on that song.
He also played with Wilson Pickett's road band. When Isaac Hayes called him to come to Memphis they needed a new guitar player right away. I knew the guys in the band and I was fortunate enough to get the call. Played with Pickett's band for five years!
