Biden Says He Has ‘Great Confidence’ in the Secret Service After Capitol Riot

President-elect Joe Biden says those who stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, resulting in destruction of property and five deaths, should be considered "thugs, insurrectionists" and "domestic terrorists."

Biden said the attack "should be thoroughly investigated" and those responsible should be "held accountable."

He said the difference between this insurgency and other violent protests was that this event "had the active encouragement of a sitting president of the United States and the way in which the breakdown in security occurred." And he underscored again that it needs to be thoroughly investigated.

The president-elect also said he wants his Justice Department to take steps to ensure "this never happens again."

Asked whether he believes his inauguration will be safe after Wednesday's insurrection, Biden said it's the Secret Service that handles inaugural events and he "has great confidence" in that agency and "great confidence in their ability to make sure the inauguration goes off safely and goes off without a hitch."

For Mr. Biden's safety, I would not recommend an outdoor inauguration. Although the secret service is fully competent, a sniper well off that does not get recognized, would be able to possibly get off a shot. Kennedy also had lots of trust with his organization for protection. So he left the top down of his car and placed himself in a bad position. Even though he knew threats have been made.
