The term “Data Fabric” is being used more frequently in Big Data talks, and many people ask us what it is. Born from Combat, Equitus Corporation created a Graph Data Fabric for the purpose of improved decision making for the organizations that support our national defense. In this video, we wanted to break down exactly what a Graph Data Fabric is, and what it is not, so that you can better understand it’s capabilities and functions.

Much more than a simple database, a Graph Data Fabric contains multiple databases within it and it also interoperates with external databases. This fabric has the ability to retrieve data from siloed external databases while leveraging its analytics and data fusion capabilities. In this way, the Graph Data Fabric makes data available across the ecosystem and it does so in a fluid movement with constant interaction of data across the environment, as opposed to databases that store data individually.

The Graph Data Fabric is made up of layers that work together to secure data, and find connections within data, while transforming data types and refining data for relevance. It can discover new data connections and provides security for data access based on the administrator’s wishes. Within the architecture of the Graph Data Fabric, there are data processing pipelines that easily consume, normalize, and transform all common data types and formats. Watch the video to learn more about what a Data Fabric is and how it can be used.
