The World’s Cheapest Capital City - Inside Damascus With A Local Girl, Syria 🇸🇾

Syria was one of the countries I visited at the beginning of my YouTube journey. When I posted my trip precisely two years ago, I had less than 10 thousand subscribers. I am resharing these videos for a wider audience now and sharing my experiences from Syria with my guide. Syria is a country that cannot be visited solo, and you have to have a guide assigned by the government for security reasons, but also, your trip details get reported to the government at the end of your trip by your travel agency. That is why I had a companion most of the time in Syria.

Twelve years ago, a peaceful uprising against the Syrian president escalated into a full-scale civil war. The conflict has caused the death of over half a million people, destroyed cities, and involved other countries.

The war has resulted in immense suffering for the Syrian population, with over half of the pre-war population of 22 million being forced to flee their homes. More than 6.8 million Syrians are internally displaced, with over two million living in tented camps and having limited access to basic services. An additional 6 million Syrians are refugees or asylum-seekers abroad, and countries like Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey, which are hosting 5.3 million of them, have struggled to cope with one of the largest refugee exoduses in recent history.

As of the beginning of 2023, the UN reported that 15.3 million people in Syria required humanitarian assistance, which is an all-time high since the war began. Furthermore, 12 million Syrians did not know where their next meal was coming from.

Although the government has regained control of Syria's biggest cities, rebels, jihadists, and the Kurdish-led SDF still hold large parts of the country, and there have been no changes in the front lines for three years.

What I like about your videos is that they are super simple, no editing or annoying background music which is showing the actual reality, you can watch them for hours.

As a Syrian expatriate, I eagerly watch many blogger videos when they visit my country, Syria, but really I want to say that you are the best. You took us through complete details of the motherland. Thank you and welcome again. My regards to you.

I have noticed with people abroad the poorer the nation the more friendly & hospitable they are. What is seen on the news is only a small percentage of what else is going on. People just want to get on with their lives.
