Was the laughing girl scripted or incidental. Did the girl laugh because "someone falling down is funny". I'm not knocking the scene. I'm just curious if it was spontaious or scripted.

not quite my favorite scene in this film but close
odd how it prefigures so much of the feeling of Wild Bunch
one almost wonders if Peckenpah did not kindasorta rip this off
Newman was trying too hard and Penn let him get away with far
too much  but there are shards of Bonnie and Clyde here too

It may be scripted because I sensed a deliberate move on the part of the 2 girls, & the mother.
