Toy Story 2 is 25 years old!

This is another prime example of how to do a proper sequel
Still one of my favorites to this day!
The movie surpasses the original by many leaps and bounds; the computer animation is vastly improved being more stylish as well as fluid, colors are more saturated, the comedy is funnier, there’s more toys to enjoy, Randy Newman’s score always remains heartwarming, I even love how the roles are switched around with Buzz taking charge affecting Woody
A hilarious portion involves Buzz facing his old persona
There’s even a very emotional section of the film involving Jessie’s backstory explaining what happened to her
It’s a dangerous world out there for a toy, how much longer can we truly last?, one more damage and the world is done with us what happens then?, how long will the bond between a child and a toy last?, life’s only worth living if you’re being loved by someone, what’s the thing to do for yourself and others?, what’s the more selfish/unselfish thing to do?, can we repair the broken?
There’s such deeper emotional resonance next to the drama with this film’s story showing how things stay the same but others change so much
Kids don’t stay kids forever and toys end up being forgotten and abandoned over time
It’s all about dealing with the inevitable, what will ultimately happen at the end becoming disposable
Lots of existential reflections on relevance and purpose are effective
Heck you could even draw a Biblical reference from the Corinthians
The writing is really great this time around with the dilemmas and I loved the vast amounts of merchandise even playing the N64 video game repeatedly
The climax is also very exciting and intense
The humor is also funnier despite some gaps in logic
This was another bonafide hit with critics and the box office even leading to 2 more installments
‘Toy Story 2’ excels continuing the story providing many laughs being subversive/self aware, great emotional beats, and family entertainment
The creators have done it again making a film that outdoes its predecessor in many respects
