Rainbirds live beim radioeins Parkfest 2014

Rückschau und Neuanfang. 25 Jahre nach ihrem Überhit „Blueprint“ ist die Berliner Band um Katharina Franck wieder da.
Die Geschichte der Rainbirds ist tausendfach erzählt worden, Katharina Franck wandelt seit anderthalb Jahrzehnten erfolgreich auf Solopfaden, den Blick konsequent nach vorn gerichtet. Mit dem Club der Toten Dichter oder ihren Gesprochenen Popsongs, um nur zwei ihrer späteren Projekte zu nennen, fand sie unentwegt neue Herausforderungen.
Doch die alten Lieder der Rainbirds, allen voran ihr Megahit "Blueprint" holte die Musikerin immer wieder ein. Und so entschloss sich Katharina Franck 2013 zu dem ungewöhnlichen Schritt, die alten Songs noch einmal und zwar zeitgemäßer einzuspielen. Katharina Franck traf sich mit Cultured Pearls-Drummer Bela Brauckmann und dem umtriebigen Elektronik-Musiker Gunter Papperitz, der u.v.a. für Peter Fox und Miss Platinum arrangiert und komponiert, um gemeinsam in die eigene Vergangenheit zurück zu reisen.

"7 compartments" was always, and remains a favourate of mine, it is the mesmeric way the accordion stabbed into the mix (on the EP), and the economy of Katharina's lyric and enticing timbre of voice. I found my own meaning, the wonderful thing about elusive lyrics is they are open to interpretation. The extended version on the 12" EP of "Blueprint", had it on the B side, I Recall, in the UK. It still seems a strange passion of interest as it is a pretty solitary thing to have been a fan of the Rainbirds since the 80's and be British. Kudos to Germany for producing such a beautiful musical experience in my life.

Ich war mal so verliebt in Katharina.
War mit 14 mein erstes Konzert und ich stand in der ersten Reihe und habe sogar einen Schweisstropfen von ihr auf die Hand bekommen.
Das ist lange lange her und da waren rod und beckmann noch mit dabei.

Eben noch ein "richtiges" Konzert mit Rod gesehen wo es richtig abging, dass ist leider nix obwohl ihr Gesang natürlich phänomenal ist.

Reainbirds was a great band years ago: outstanding voice, acoustic instruments, great melodic line and overall quality in each of the song, but at this concert only voice is (almost) the same: too much electronics and lack of idea "what to do next" makes me very sad. It's nothing more than mediocre disco.
