Dr. Barkley, don't know if you'll see this comment, but just wanted to take this time to really appreciate you and thank you for all the unwavering support and confidence, you give to people with this condition. You are one of the only people in this world who understand this disorder and treat it's neuro-psychology. So, far in my journey, only your lectures and books have helped me get better and create the environment and accommodations in my life to benefit me, without any guilt.
You have quite literally saved my life, it is an honor, getting treatment from the best in the world (via your books) !
So, thank - you ! Hope, one day, I can say this to you in person. And try and add to your goal of spreading, awareness, confidence and compassion.

I have a standing desk with a walking pad under it. I walk during working and I figured out that I can concentrate and feel much better when I’m walking.

I didn’t know I had adhd before I started walking while working, but the research at 10:00 absolutely aligned with my experience.

Nice articles this week. It is good to know that research shows that movement and background music help people children with adhd to concentrate. Sometimes you hear these things criticized as distractions. The research gives me more confidence and eliminates guilt and shame about how I might use these both for myself and my students.

incredibly informative! While studying for exams, I would go to the gym and walk on the treadmill while studying or pacing up and down my driveway while listening to lectures and it improved my focus and memory on the subject matter significantly faster than when i tried sitting in multiple different quiet environments or when I tried to listen to music etc. I'm 29 and was just diagnosed with ADHD a few days ago and all my life ive been constantly looking for new ways to improve my productivity and attention. this makes so much sense! these videos are invaluable and I thank you for the work you are putting in to sharing these studies

Doing my job when I was training, I was still learning so I couldn't really listen to music like some of the other workers did. Once I did start listening to music while I worked it made the day so much better, it improved my attitude and helped pass the time much quicker

God bless your soul for helping people like us to know ourselves better and function better. I have a question about the second study, what type of music were they listening to ? I guess classical music would have a different effect than techno for example?

You should do these live so you can get a response to those jokes 😆

Hi Dr. Barkley, I'm a female 20 yo 3D artist that noticed that I and many other artists with ADHD have specific difficulties when it comes to art, I would love if you could cover ADHD and Art as a topic in a future video.

I need help. I think I have both CDS and ADHD. Nothing works. Stimulants don’t work. Diet helps somewhat but not enough.

I have noticed that a few people I know with ADHD have trouble pacing themselves. They keep going until they drop, is this related to lack of interoception?

I think tha study about task performance while moving is a great jumping off point for you to discuss a more positive framing for what people mean when they say they are masking ADHD. Sure, ignoring important social obligations is a problem, and I wouldn't advise anyone to wallow -- but if a person with ADHD needs to fidget to concentrate better, and they're not being antisocial about it, shouldn't we accommodate them? We sure didn't when I was a kid, but this has since been normalized and I can't see the downside to it, frankly. Should we not be looking out as well for other social expectations which are arbitrary?

And on the flip side, when people with a disability fail at tasks which are easy for others -- I don't think it's appropriate to shame them. Compassion yes, firm boundaries too sometimes, shame though? Thats definitely the feel I got from that diatribe and it's a little disappointing.

Dr what is your view about adhd that adhd doesn't need medication but because of the condition of how society works. Adhd requires medication because they're forced to comply with the work life situation which requires long hour focus and discipline.
