Really hit me when she said her dad was her biggest fan!! I hope my daughter can say that so confidently about me as she gets older.

As to the habit, I was waiting for a bus years ago with a friend of mine who had become an Orthodox monk and stayed in touch. An extremely excited boy (17 or 18) ran up to us and asked my friend, 'Are you a ninja?' He replied, 'No, I am a Christian monk.' and the boy said. 'Where can I get clothes like that?' My friend answered, 'We make them in the monastery.' and the boy said, 'I wish I could wear that.' My friend replied, 'You can, anytime you like. You just have to join the brotherhood.' Things went from there. Six years later that boy is a very quiet, serious and thoughtful Orthodox Christian and the director of his parish choir, most of whom discovered the church though him, and he is now engaged to the first soprano whom he also converted. Before he started teaching all his friends about Christianity, there were two old babas and a low tenor on their last legs singing in Slavonic who would have retired ages ago if there had been anyone to replace them. He is also teaching some newly arrived middle eastern girls solfeggio so they will be joining the choir soon and they in turn are teaching the singers Arabic chants so they will be able to expand their repertoire. He never wore the monastic black but perhaps he did something better. All because of a chance meeting with someone he might never have noticed or spoken to. The habit is actually a great ice breaker sometimes. (Monks are not supposed to have nicknames, but he still calls my friend 'Father Ninja.')

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the delightful level of banter coming from this sister

I’m a Catholic woman who wears a Jewish-style headcovering. It definitely confuses people, but if they’re paying close attention they’ll notice the Miraculous Medal or St. Benedict medal I wear around my neck.

I love Byzantine things. I spent 6 months last year going to Divine Liturgy regularly.
It's beautiful.
Thank you Matt, thank you Sister. 🇻🇦🇻🇦🇻🇦

Im a muslim woman and really respect nuns and other religious women that cover their hair. But I don’t get why a lot of Catholics in Spain and even institutions have double standards and discriminate against me wearing a hijab… when are people going to allow women to be modest in peace and not take it as an act of repression instead of what it is, empowerment.

I also wear a covering full time as a Christian Catholic, even married. Many Christian women prior to 1900 wore a covering not only at Mass but at home, at the market, etc… anywhere where they could possibly pray. 1 Corinthians 11 states women should cover when they pray.

I'm a Muslim woman who wears a hijab and I would have 100% assumed you were also Muslim if I saw you on the street and said Asalam alaikum to you

Thank you Sister Natalia!! I remember having nuns for 8 years in grammar school and 4 years in high school. Our nuns/teachers were great - very effective and supportive. It was sad when the orders started to disband in the late 60's and then those that stayed together stopped wearing a habit. The respect they received disappeared. God Bless!!

I’ve heard some Eastern chants in honor of Mary. They are deep and beautiful, and reverent. Beats the music we get in mass.

I reverted to Islam from the Catholic Church and there was a young nun named Rita that came to college with us, she used to study in child education, she was just the sweetest! She had to walk to the nearest Church if she needed to pray, so we offered her our prayer room. She wore the habit, but a lot of nuns in my country don't necessarily wear it anymore, it's not mandatory. I always got the best smiles from nuns walking by on the street. I actually wanted to be one when I was 14 or 15, I wanted to go into seclusion or something, but as I got older, I got closer to Islam and the need to have kids grew. I've been Muslim for 13 years now, I wear niqab and jilbab (a veil that goes from head to toe) and my late dad used to call me the flying nun when it was windy outside 😂 he was also my biggest fan! When ppl would ask him what he thought of my choices he said:"my daughter likes to do everything to the fullest, I wouldn't expect anything less of her and I'm proud of what she stands for"

I feel like nuns don't get enough credit for what they do and represent. Our veil does resemble theirs a lot, depending on the style, but we do take example on previous modest clothing from Jews and Christians.

Im an American muslim and from the Boston area. I wear long dark clothing, and whether black or brown, grey or navy people ask me if I'm a nun. I reply that I'm a muslim, but I went to Catholic school for ten years and enjoyed beimg taught by nuns. I also have 2 aunts and one great aunt who were nuns.
They are respectful yet shocked as I am obviously white, blue eyed Irish American with a Boston accent.
Without being asked I explain that I changed to Islam as I never believed in the trinity and that our creator, Allah, is one and He created us all and will judge us at the end of time.

This is why men and women religious, and clergy, ought to always wear their habit and/or clerical garb. There’s so much grace by wearing it, and helps people come to Christ.

Moreover, those religious orders with men and women not wearing the habit are all dying out, because not wearing the habit is not authentic to the consecrated life they are living.

Question: why do Nuns wear their full habits when Priests don't? Modesty, humility etc., but why don't Priests wear their collars at all times? Some Priests are on television and are completely unrecognizable as Priests by the way they dress.
