Both her and the child actress did a really good job. That scene at the bank killed me man.

The criticism of her not talking is so dumb when that’s literally the point of her character, what he does is so repulsive that it destroys his relationship with his daughter

I loved the character of Peggy. She says so much by saying so little

Scorsese: "Just stand there and stare disapprovingly."

Anna Paquin: "OK."

The scene where she put the closed sign up...it cut deep.

I wish she made more movies. I love watching her performances.

Peggy as a child and as an adult woman was one of the best parts of the movie in my opinion. They were that one singular voice of reason in the movie, even if that voice did not say much. I wish Peggy would have gotten more screentime and a few scenes of her own

the fact that she had so little screentime and so few words added to how powerful her role was. and makes the story unmistakably true. No redemption, no reconciliation, sometimes it is what it is.

Amazing what her and her child actress could do with such little dialogue. Really felt it.

Benicio Del Toro has a look where words are not required. Anna Paquin does too.

I have...never heard Anna Paquin speak without an accent. Huh

Edit: I should have clarified, I haven’t seen any footage of Anna Paquin speaking without a southern accent up until this video

I wished she talked about reuniting with Harvey Keitel on-screen 26 years after The Piano

Her accent is so interesting. It’s like a mix of New Zealand, Irish, south US lol

She is the character that stays irresolutely with you, long after you have finished the movie. Brilliantly acted.

Those who would criticize Paquin’s role and characterization for political reasons show no appreciation of writing style. The screenplay is by Steven Zaillian, who also wrote Schindler’s List. Thinking of the “girl in red” motif from that film, it’s obvious that the mute innocent young girl bearing witness is a favorite metaphor of the writer. This imagery has precedent in Zaillian’s work, so if you were comfortable with that metaphor in List you should at the very least not have been surprised by it in The Irishman. The difference is that in the latter film, the little girl gets to grow up. Now, if I’m right in my analysis, how telling is it that my high school literature education occurred in the 1990s, when the lit curriculum was still about reading texts rather than imposing political theories on them?
