Now you're realizing how Metallica has maintained such a consistent sound over the years, even after Clint died and they released the Black Album, it was still recognizably Metallica.
James Hetfield deserves way more credit as a guitarist than he gets, not only has he shown he is perfectly capable of playing a lot of Metallica's lead guitar work with minimal effort, some of the rhythm sections in Metallica songs are kind of difficult to play and James plays them all in studio.
What else can I say, the man was a fan of punk rock growing up and idolized Johnny Ramone, another guitarist known for having a buzzsaw for a strumming hand.
