In this video I take you on a tour of the worst areas to live in Weston Super Mare, in North Somerset.

Weston Super Mare is one of the worst ranked UK seaside towns, and it struggles with poverty, high crime, immigration, and other issues.

Here is a look at the seafront, as well as two of the highest crime and most deprived housing estates:

Hope you enjoy the video, feel free to drop any comments and I'll probably get back to you, cheers!

I come from North Somerset, and agree with much that’s been said here. A lot of Weston is a crap hole. The problems in WSM are completely home grown and absolutely NOTHING to do with refugees, unless you include those taking refuge from Burnham on Sea or Highbridge from where numerous homeless in Weston originate. Boat people don’t roll up on Weston Beach, they would sink and drown in the mud. North Somerset is pretty much off the radar for the vast majority of the recent migrants.
I have read the Cadbury family had planned to build a factory and housing for its employees on the site they named Bournville after its base in Birmingham, because many of its employees holidayed in Weston. For whatever reason Cadbury pulled out after starting work on the housing, then sold the land cheaply to the local council. True or not the Bournville Estate has always been a troubled place, built in the middle of a major railway junction it is cut off from the rest of the world apart from two bridges in and out of the estate, ideal for culturing a siege mentality amongst its residents. You are completely right with your comments about Bournville, but not far across the tracks and a short distance to the south lies Oldmixton which suffers similar but slightly lesser problems, and adjacent to that is the Jubilee Estate which is almost as bad as Bournville. There are also pockets of poverty in some of the leafy areas of Weston including Worle, but Worle is a large area, not just the comparatively small dodgy estate you mentioned. Much of Worle has comfortable homes which like most of inland Weston, acts as commuter belt for Bristol.
There is a huge problem with drugs in WSM because many of the guest houses of the likes you shown were converted into rehabilitation facilities, designed to take the addicts away from the temptations from the dealers in the big estates and inner cities, these places just attracted drug dealers to move into the town.
Weston suffered very badly in the 70’s with the arrival of cheap package holidays, but in Weston the decline was exasperated by a notorious gang of Skinheads from the Bournville Estate thought it big and tough to run riot along the beach and seafront, fighting with Bikers from Bristol frightening the lives out of tourists and day trippers, especially families with young children so badly they never came back.
Since then Weston has had to endure almost zero investment North Somerset Council. A council notorious for its nepotism who are more interested in channeling any available investment into the wealthier areas, particularly the leafy communities that border Bristol. As a Conservative administration it has championed the government policy of austerity and that is the reason that Weston is in such a mess, definitely not migrants. Sorry if that doesn’t suit the agenda of blaming refugees and migrants and stoking up the Culture Wars.

I used to go to Weston most years in the late 1960’s as a kid, was basically all my parents could afford. It was always a decent safe place where the folks of Birmingham traditionally went on holiday, hence the Bournville thing. Shocking what a dump it is now

Went to Weston as a kid back in the 60s and had wonderful family holidays. Breaks my heart to see it this way.

Great video as always. Being from Bristol I used to go to Weston every summer in the 90s as a kid and It was a lovely place, completely different now, seems to suffer from a large drug problem especially the area by the Odeon. I'm surprised you didn't visit Oldmixon too

Another absolute wicked video! I’ve noticed it’s not great when walking around the back streets away from the seafront in Weston Super Mare in the past, same with Burnham on Sea in my opinion when I went there for the first time back end of last year. Keep the content coming mate …. Smithy

Those shuttered up stores look like scenes from a zombie apocalypse movie, very sad state of affairs in those areas.

Why only show the negative aspect of Weston Super Mare....Lovely clean air...Super fish and chip shops ...Tropicana cafe..Super....Plenty of investment in The Grand Pier....World beating Eccles Cakes at Summer shows ...A different place in the summer.Always crowded...Good festivals on The Green. The Sea Monster was great...Life is what you make it ...Promote Positivity..Negate Negativity....Come back

I lived in Weston 25 years ago and it certainly looks like its gone down hill big time !!!
Worle is not a council estate, but a large estate of private houses with what was when I lived there a decent high street. I think the estate is Oldmixon, yes another dumping ground.

As much as I liked the video it seriously needed re-editing from 4:22 onwards. It’s clearly not Worle as I grew up on the Oldmixon so I recognise that area anywhere. I do agree with state of the Bournville for sure. Even as a kid I was wary of walking around there. And now I’m 46 I wouldn’t think twice about avoiding it

What you show as worle (pronounced wurl) is actually the Oldmixon estate I believe. Had some friends there and walked home through it most days so knew it well.

Hmmm, Bit harsh maybe?...
Whilst I don't live in Weston, I did date someone local to here until fairly recently and still visit regularly for a day out on the train so am familiar with the place.
There's some great pubs (a very decent 'Spoons on the front, Fork N Ale, Duke of Oxford, and especially the Brit Bar with its regular live music and friendly regulars..)
The beach is fine for a wander about and the Grand Pier is definitely worth a visit too..
Also there's quite a few events put on here.. the SeeMonster temporary installation was great as is the GLOW light festival that is held in February in Grove Park. There's also the theatres (Front Room is ace..) and various other entertainments...
Yes, it's a little run down in parts, as are many towns...just wanted to balance it a bit..

Cheers

I haven't been to Weston for ages and it was never that great but this video makes it look like it's gone down hill quite significantly.
