Lev Yashin, fellas. yeah, it was the CCCP, so ... perhaps you can question the competition *somewhat*, but the man revolutionized the positioned. first GK to truly command the defense? Yashin. first to always play off of the but line but on the string? Yashin. first to regularly fight through everyone to play crosses? Yashin. first to intimidate the hell outta opposing attackers by attacking them first -- even outside of the penalty box? Yashin. the first to regularly employ the punch save and the tip save? Yashin. the first to embrace the philosophy of "last man on defense but first man on offense" by starting the counter attack? Yashin. he was also a physical freak of nature. 6'2" and an estimated rock hard 220#, he had the reflexes of a cat -- evinced by 150 PK saves. and as quite correctly mentioned below, the only GK to win the ballon d'or. unfortunate that so many of the greats (see: Eusébio) are lost to the vagaries of time.

still, i commend you for discussing this and not another (wrong) ronaldo v messi video. were it not for the injury, fat ronaldo would've bettered either of the aforementioned.
