In 2021, Dacia made a significant leap into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of the Spring, its first electric model. This move has effectively made zero-emission driving more accessible to a broader audience. Since its introduction, the Spring has quickly become a favorite, ranking as the third highest-selling electric vehicle to individual consumers in 2022 and 2023. To date, registrations of the Dacia Spring have surpassed 140,000 units globally.

The 2024 version of the Spring is not a brand-new model but rather an extensive update that aligns it with Dacia's most recent design philosophy, as evidenced by the styling cues taken from the new Duster SUV.

Inside the car, the 2024 Spring boasts a completely redesigned dashboard. This includes a new 7.0-inch digital display panel for the driver and a larger 10.0-inch touchscreen interface for the infotainment system. The vehicle's interior has also seen updates to the climate control system, air vents, and the addition of a modernized steering wheel featuring the latest Dacia logo. This wheel now comes with height adjustment options. A novel gear selector and a strategically placed smartphone holder represent other interior enhancements.

When it comes to power, the Spring starts with a modest 45 horsepower motor. For those seeking a bit more pep, there's an option to upgrade to a 65 horsepower motor, which allows the vehicle to reach 62 mph notably quicker — in under 14 seconds, as opposed to the base motor's sub-20-second timing. The Spring's 26.8-kWh battery pack supports over 137 miles of driving range on a full charge, with a rapid charging feature that can replenish the battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 45 minutes using a 30-kW DC charger. For a full charge, using a 7-kilowatt AC charger, the wait extends to nearly 11 hours. An exciting addition to this model is its capability for bidirectional charging, enabling it to power external devices.

Despite the modest range, Dacia has pointed out that it adequately meets the needs of the typical Spring driver. Analysis of usage data from the vehicle's infotainment system revealed that most owners drive around 23 miles daily, with 90 percent of trips being under 43 miles at an average speed of 23 mph, and a majority charging their vehicle at home.

The Spring stands out in Europe as the sole EV weighing less than 2,204 pounds, even after the inclusion of additional standard features and enhanced driver assistance technology to comply with EU regulations, adding only 13 pounds to its weight. The top-tier model weighs just 2,169 pounds.

The Dacia Spring is tailored for those seeking simple, affordable, and emission-free transportation, making it an excellent choice for city use and small businesses involved in delivery services. Pricing details for the new model are yet to be announced, but the previous model was priced around €20,000 in its home market of Romania, before incentives, and is produced in China.
