Stan Vreeken - Endlings

Показать описание

endling (pl. endlings) ~
The last known individual of a species or subspecies.
Once the endling dies, the species becomes extinct
———————————————————————————————————————
Last summer I wrote a series of five songs about endlings.
A small ode to life and everything that goes by.
I wrote a song for Lonesome George - the last Pinta Island tortoise ever, who died of an overdose of loneliness in 2012.
I wrote a song for Martha - the last passenger pigeon, once the most abundant bird in North America - and a song for "Booming" Ben - so named because of his loud mating call (in vain; he really was the last).
Ayapaneco also received a song, a Central American language spoken by only two people in the world, Manuel and Isidro. Unfortunately, the two have gotten into a fight and refuse to speak ever since.
Finally I wrote Dodo's Lament, a song for human kind.
We recorded this live performance of this series - especially for these stay-at-home-days - at a beautiful location in the center of Amsterdam. With one camera, on three floors, with five fantastic musicians and a fantastic team.
With endless thanks to everyone who participated and made this project possible: Mats Voshol (Drums), Floris van der Vlugt (Bass Clarinet), Julian du Perron (Guitar) , Marieke Smit (Vocals), Dave Wismeijer (Bass), Sonne Scheermakers (Sound), Jurriaan JJ Sielcken (Sound), Ab Al-Tamimi (Video), Matthias de Koning , Jonas Kraft, Jorn Heijdenrijk, Discordia Theater Company and the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst.
And for Floris in particular, this one is for you. To all the beauty that remains.
