Hello everyone! Today I'm discussing Ashton's custom subclass from Campaign 3 of Critical Role. I thought it's a great subclass, though it could use some slight balance adjustments! What do you think of the Primal Path of Fundamental Chaos? Comment below! More videos are coming soon! Check out the links below for more of my stuff.

The “4 Sided Dive” talk show from Critical Role revealed some additional insights:

Jaffe wanted to play a barbarian & asked Matt for a re-skin of the ‘wild magic’ subclass. Jaffe seemed to view the ‘wild magic’ class badly because the magical abilities narrowed as the subclass leveled up. He wanted something that would get more chaotic as they progressed. Mercer appears to have obliged & the details are getting revealed as the game progresses.

The four rages are labeled “time, space, gravity, & luck.”

Ashton has to have a weapon to channel the chaos magic through; he couldn’t access his rage abilities in a bare fist fight in a dual outside the masque ball. He also attempted to ‘punch magic’ into a sky ship crystal & did little if anything to amplify its abilities.

I’m excited to see how the class plays out :)

I was under the impression that the space ability with the portals didn't appear until Ashton reached 6th level. First time it appeared was the Airship fight.

Getting 3 initial auras, then additional more powerful ones later as you reach more appropriate levels of play would make more sense.

Did I miss something earlier?

Ancestral guardians doesnt break if someone else hits the target of the guardians. You were likely thinking of compelled duel. Doesn't make Ashton's class less broken but you were incorrect there.

I mean this makes sense. Ashton isn’t OP because he’s a martial class tbh lol.

Its wat to OP, basicly cherry picked the best out of alot of barbairan subclasses ans says its balanced cuz its random... but every random thing is still the best from an other subclass + other abilities, why take anyother subclass if this one have it all? xD
wouldnt be suprised if he gets resistance to everything further down.

Can't be OP if you have plot armor and the dice rolls are faked.

CR is the WWE of D&D. Entertaining, but the furthest thing from genuine. None of the actions or characters have legitimate threats to their game/PC lives. They have a 0% chance of TPK, ever. It's Pretending to Pretend. A scripted performance can't have OP cast, because OP means there's a dramatically reduced chance of failure - and you can't reduce below 0%.
