As a beginner, buying a firearm can be very intimidating. The responsibility of gun ownership is something that can't be taken lightly. And where do you even start when trying to pick a handgun for your first one?? In this video I explore my thought process and why for me the Sig P365 Micro Compact became the obvious choice.

I own one of these but added the Wilson combat frame(which gives a much more confident grip in my hand). Then I added the 17rd mag and changed the baseplate to match so now I have much more grip and greater capacity. I know not everyone can do this depending on the state, but for me this was the perfect compromise between the p365 and the Xmacro. Love this gun, and with the extended mag it shoots like a full size. Cheers, be safe

Subscribed. Decided to purchase the same pistol for similar reasons. I wanted something reliable and accurate out of the box and more importantly difficult to leave at home. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to firearm ownership! I own a P365 XL (I went with the Tactical Development rail adapter) and they are great little pistols, I hope you are enjoying yours. Always practice good safety and move at a speed you’re comfortable with. Snap caps are a great way to practice loading, holstering/drawing and clearing jams without using live ammo to help build confidence. Slow steady repetition will help with building muscle memory and once you feel smooth you can speed it up. A quality holster is worth its weight in gold! Um, what else? When you are ready to start carrying pick up quality defensive ammo. When teaching new people to shoot I try to stress safety and fun! Start off shooting closer then you might think. It may feel silly at times but it’s more fun to hit paper at 5 yards then to constantly miss at 15. Hope some of this helps, be safe and enjoy getting to know your new pistol!

You are very wise, if you are not ready to carry with a round in the chamber then don't. You can make those changes later. Keep an open mind and don't be afraid to grow. Don't let anyone force you into a discision you are not ready to make.

Bought this gun not too long ago because I wanted to have it to conceal. Shot about 36 rounds through it and I got to say it does the job very well. I'm a avide gun owner and 2nd rights believer, I do recommend this for any at this to add this to your collection.

Professional training can never be overstated. My advice is to seek professional training first, it’ll teach you the fundamentals of SAFETY and handling, and it’ll enhance your confidence. Good luck! 😁👍🏽

Please go back and look at the video, again. One of the fundamental rules of safe gun handling is you never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy. At one point early on in the video, you were turning the gun in your hand and you swept yourself with the muzzle. Yes, the gun was unloaded. But that brings up the next rule of gun handling: Treat all weapons as if they are loaded...ALL THE TIME. It's a habit that's vital to develop in order to stay safe.

Having been a competitive shooter for 41 years and as a CCW holder of 33 years who carries a P365, an S&W Shield and a snubby revolver I can probably say that a better choice for your first gun might have been a 4" revolver in 38 Spl. They are accurate, safe (no safety, but long trigger pull is your safety) and plentiful in the used market. Lots of S&W police trade-ins are out there if you look. A small semi-auto handgun is a difficult gun to learn to use. Generally, there is more recoil, more chance of a failure to fire, failure to feed or failure to eject (chances are that won't happen with your P365). Once you have learned all the basics with a revolver then you can move to the semi-auto realm. Having said that, you did buy a great gun. Being that you are limited to 10 rounds you may live in several different states. Being that you can carry, I can say that you do not live in NJ. Permits in NJ are more scarce than sane people in nut houses. Shoot it at the range as often as possible to familiarize your self with it's operation. When you do decide to carry with a loaded magazine there should also be one in the chamber. A gun without a round in the chamber is called a hammer. Racking the slide in a moment of panic/emergency could lead to lost time and a failure to feed if you are not proficient. I applaud your desire to learn first...that is the problem with most first timers..."going off half cocked" b/c now they are carrying a gun. Go slow but have faith in yourself. Having an external safety is okay if that keeps you safer. Good video. BTW, a twelve round magazine will give you the longer grip w/o buying a new grip frame, that is what I did. It also gives you the compact gun again if you use the 10 rounder.

I love the 365 I carry in Desantis Nemesis pocket holster one in the chamber with a manual safety if you can't sweep the safety off while gripping your gun then train more and always keep your trigger finger extended until ready to fire pick the gun up with your 3 lower fingers 1'st finger always extended.

Manual safety is a plus, if carrying you can carry one in the chamber as long as known. It is as long as known why and know why . Know the firearm is hot. Striker fire arms normally have trigger safety and drop safety. A Manual safety is a plus because it gives you one more step to make the firearm ready to fire. It makes the time to fire longer yet is one more safety feature especially with newer shooters. Pull the trigger on a loaded striker it will go off unless it has a manual safety. Clear any gun every time and never hand your gun to anyone.

I have had a few guns for years. I started carrying this year though. I carry the p365xl with no safety, love it. I don't like shooting micro 9s so I went for slightly bigger. A fun modular firearm is any version of Sig p320 and a decent AR15 in my opinion. Man I could talk about this for a while since I really have gotten into this for the last year. This comment is going to get really long so I should stop while I'm ahead haha.

Just finished watching your range video and I have a question. First, if you didn't know how to drive a car, you surely wouldn't buy a one first, go to some track, and teach yourself how to drive. You would either take a drivers education course first, or some other instruction on how to drive.
Then why would you decide to buy your first handgun, and go shooting at a range, without first seeking instruction on the basics? a) Safety, b) Marksmanship c)Shooting Fundamentals, proper grip, sight alignment area aim, trigger control?

I bought this gun because I have arthritis issues in my hands and the slide was one of the easiest ones to rack. Hopefully, your wife will like that feature. As a woman myself, I found that to be an incredibly important feature.

I don't think I would would recommend a micro compact to anyone to be their first pistol. I understand you want to carry something and if you are only going to purchase one gun there's worse choices out there. I have an XL slide on a 365 grip myself but the advice I got was to start out with a full size pistol. They're much more manageable in terms of recoil so learning to shoot isn't as intense. I'm sure there's an argument for jumping into the deep end right out of the gate and shooting the snappy guns. If that's what you wanna do, by all means. I know if I were putting a gun into my wife's hand for the first time it wouldn't be a micro compact.

Micro pistols are a compromise. Great for concealment. However, super snappy and hard to control. Try shooting 5 rounds quickly and you'll soon realize how much they beat up your wrists. I have the P365 and even my wife has learned to love shooting my full size pistol. But undeniable, the small size is what you want. Get a full size to enjoy shooting.

By the way, the Sig P365 and the 365XL are great choices. I own both.
