Best things to do in London for free: check out the best unpaid attractions in the city and tips.

London is undoubtedly one of the coolest cities in the world and definitely a place to visit!

This land of the queen and plebeian hipsters is known for its famous attractions but also for its high prices.

After spending two months in the city and following some local’s advice, I made a list of the 7 best things to do in London for free, so you can save some extra pounds when you visit the city, and also get a better idea of what to do in London and its unusual attractions.

Here is my list of A list of the 7 best free things to do in London:
1 - The British Museum, the first national public museum in the world.
2 - Regent's Park;
3 - Sky Garden
4 - Free Walking Tours
5 - Camden Town
6 - Greenwich
7 - Walking on the river banks.

I've just begun filming natural sound and sight walking videos mainly in London and the UK, the south bank is free and wonderful, so maybe take a look and see if you find this walk informative before you visit? No comment ad's or music, just appreciation.

Fancy a nice walk. Get the Underground to Warwick Avenue and walk the complete length of the Regents Canal. Takes you past Regents Park straight into the heart of  Camden Market. Street food! Continue on to Kings Cross which has been totally transformed in recent years, check out the Victorian gasometers. Continue on toward Islington where you have to leave the Canal and navigate a few streets as you cannot walk through the Islington tunnel. Go to Chapel Market on the way, awesome eat all you can vegetarian Indian restaurant. Keep going and Victoria Park Hackney, massive open space. If you have the energy walk right on down to the River Thames. Whole distance is about 9.5 miles, great walk for people watching and PLENTY of places for grub and drinks,

Most of the museums are free (except for some special exhibitions in them). Natural History, Victoria & Albert, Science, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, British Museum are probably the biggest ones (all free) but there are lots of smaller ones as well.

The Skygarden usually requires booking sometime in advance. However there are certain times of the day where booking is not required and you can just queue up outside.
There is another roof garden nearby at 120 Fenchurch street. No booking needed, less crowded and all open air. Skygarden is more impressive, but worth seeing both as they are a bit different.

Of course, there's absolutely no way for anyone to see everything in London in a short while - even Londoners don't know their city! But you've done a great job. If only tourists had the time to amble through one of the glorious parks and just chill (when it's warm enough!) instead of rushing about everywhere. RobertK.

If your visiting London and want to learn something about London and its long history, go to the Museum of London Docklands at Canary Wharf. Its free but please donate something, it helps it survive.
