Silent Storm is the closest thing to a modern Jagged Alliance and you should check it out. It also has a really detailed destruction system.

This is one of my all-time favorite games. Even the addition of M.E.R.C. and the possibilities involved in the game are a really cool touch that you don't see in today's games. I recall that if you don't pay for your M.E.R.C. recruits in a timely manner (because the invoice arrives AFTER the mercenaries finish their contracts) that they will fold and the entire organization will go out of business.

JA2 is one of my all-time favourites! I have started playing it when the demo came out back in the day (with its own demo map) and done so many playthroughs of it, later with 1.13...

one of my favourite games ever. I got it when I was 16?! Don't know.... 32 now and still playing it from time to time.

It desperatly needs a reboot. Keep everything as it is in 1.13 but just polish the graphics a bit... X com 2 style maybe.

This is my most beloved game of all time. The characters and the way they talk still make me smile when I think about them. I first played when the demo came out way back in the tail-end of the 90's, in the olden days of DOS.... still playing them from time to time... and I still haven't used all the characters available as my marcenaries.... this game is that rich... you can still find new things after playing for 15/16 years. Amazing game.

This is such a great review. You explain the unique aspects of the gameplay and why you like them. There isn't any other game exactly like Jagged Alliance, so this explanation of the game mechanics was very thorough and enjoyable. I would love to see more video game reviews by you!

This is one of my favorite games. I bought it in the 90's. It came with a Jagged Alliance t-shirt in the box. I still play this game regularly, there are games like this one, but non capture the atmosphere and the deep character building you get with this game. For the hilarious personalities of the mercs alone this is a unique game already.

I've recently edited the progression-based loadouts for militia and enemies in the XML editor to make it more thematically consistent.
Admin troops = flak jackets, military surplus and civilian market sporting gear
Regular troops = classic AK-derivatives/CETME/old FN&HK/FAMAE + kevlar, guardian and twaron
Elite troops = modern AK-derivatives and integrally suppressed weapons + spectra, dyneema, field ops/recon armor.
I've also had rocket rifles relegated to sci-fi mode. Orta will instead have prototype weapons like the Pancor Jackhammer, CAWS, Steyr SCF, HK G11, HK XM series etc.
It has further differentiated playthroughs in the two modes.

Easily my favourite game of all time. You should check out the New Vengeance Reloaded mod, new characters, weapons and map changes. Pretty damn awesome.

To get the "bullet passes through torso&victim is thrown back a tile" anim, try one of the sniper rifles chambered in 12.7mm.
I think it depends on the amount of dmg, so 7.62 glaser would be also sufficient vs unarmored targets,
but the time you get sniper rifles enemies are rarely unprotected.
The game also has a "drops down the roof" anim which trigggers 100 pts xtra dmg, last not least we have the incineration.
