Afl is a winter sport. Played in crickets off season. It was invented to keep cricketers fit in the winter.

Every time I watch someone reacting to this video they talk through vital parts of the information and then ask a question that was just answered.

AFL is played in our winter from late March til the end of September when the Grand Final is played. The scoreline 20 10 130 means 20 goals, 10 points or behinds. So 20 x 6 = 120 + 10 behinds = 130 points total. In America you would probably need to play it in your summer. You couldn't play this game in snow or icy conditions but it does get pretty damn cold in our winter and very wet which makes for a different kind of spectacle and a different approach.

In Australia, never schedule a wedding in September. 50% may may, but they will all be watching the tv or on their phones as that is when the AFL finals are.

The new season starts 6th March which is the beginning of autumn. Australian winters can be pretty mild depending on which part of the country you are in, especially compared to what you are experiencing at the moment if you’re in a blizzard. We do get blizzards in the snow fields, but in Brisbane where I live, we generally wear T-shirts during the day and add a wind cheater at night. The Brisbane Lions won the premiership last year, and there are replays of all the games available through Kayo if you have that.

Aussie Rules was created in 1850s, Its older than EVERY other Team Ball sport than Soccer and Rugby. The ground is ave 195x165 yards. Its played between March and Last Saturday in September. The Grand Final " Superbowl" has 100, 000 crowd soon to be 110, 000. The average crowd is approx 40, 000 but there are 2 newer teams that watered down the figures...The larger clubs can have crowds of 75, 000 to 95, 000 on a weekly basis.
The midfield players run approx 12 Miles a game. Most midfielders are 6ft -6.5 ft tall and 175 - 195 pounds with no body fat. They hit repeat speeds of 20 -30 mph every minute...The paying qtrs are on average 30 mins long, they have a 6 min break, half time is 20 mins...The swap scoring ends after every qtr.

The United States Australian Football League started in 1997. As of 2011, there were over 1, 000 registered USAFL players. There are 48 member clubs, of which 47 have men's teams (all except North Star Blue Ox) and 25 have women's teams.

When looking at the score, the first number (20) is the number of Goals scored; the second number (10) is the number of Behinds score, and the third number (130) is the Total number of points scored (20 Goals worth six points each = 120, and add 10 Behinds worth one point each = 10)

Aussie Rules is played between March and September, as it is our winter sport. One of our summer sports is Cricket, I would recommend you react to Cricket Explained for Baseball Fans; Cricket is an International sport, played primarily between Commonwealth Countries but there are also European, Asian and American teams.

The final score is Collingwood 20 goals (20×6=120) + 10 behinds (10×1=10) 120+10=130 represented by the final score. Carlton 18 goals (18×6=108) + 12 behinds (12×1=12) total score 120, meaning in this example, Collingwood won the game by 10 points. That's the scoring system, but to make it easier, just look at the 3rd lot of numbers as the final score and calculate the difference there to see who's winning by how much. It's a great game. For a longer video, you should react to a whole game. Seeing the whole game makes it easier to pick up. There are heaps of AFL grand final games uploaded on YouTube and games during the seasons, too. The season starts in March, and the Grand final is on the last Saturday in September. Time difference might mean that a daytime game here might be ridiculous AM your time so just be careful of that if you want to watch a game live.

You'll be happy to know Charlie, that I believe there is an amatuer footy league in your country.
Some Aussies who moved there set it up and I think there's about 10 or so teams.

marks (6:04) - a mark is where the ball is caught on the full after being kicked more than 15m/16.4y

final scores (6:45) - the final score, read left to right, is goals (worth 6 points each), behinds (worth 1 point each), and then the total points. so 20 goals is 120 points, 10 behinds is 10 points, which totals a final score of 130 points. the ratio of goals/behinds doesn't count towards winning or losing the game, it's just whoever has the highest total points.

season times (7:35) - afl season is from march to september, it's a winter sport. sometimes these guys are sliding around in torrential rain, it's crazy lol. one time they played in canberra and it was snowing.

when is the grand final (9:00) - the grand final is in september, so you'll have to wait a while unfortunately! but hey, more time for you to watch some matches and decide which team you barrack for!

so glad you enjoy footy, we love it so much here in aus and it's so fun seeing other countries get onboard :)

The AFL season starts mid-march which the season is autumn and still the weather is still quite warm in Melbourne between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit

Afl seasons pretty much start a couple of weeks after the superbowl. They have a few practice games for 2-3 weeks which used to go for a month, then season proper in march. It used to start pretty late in March but with restructuring with byes and keeping players fresher at seasons start, as players are back in training in November for the following year, as well as a new team coming into the league in 2028 it now starts pretty much early March and goes for 6mths. Season proper is only 6 weeks away and I cant wait. Oz has pretty good weather all year round. Even in winter are some pretty sunny days and not cold like in Europe or the U.S.
There is no snowfall here unless you go into the mountains and the mid to northern states are hot all year round.

I hate to disappoint…but this is a winter sport in Australia, so it would coincide with your summer sports. We get a lot of sunny days here.…even in our winter.

Usually, pre-season games begin in March (I think…I am not a huge fan, though I appreciate the game), and the Grand final of the season occurs in late September.

After that, Cricket season starts…..this is the other ‘big love’ in Australian sport. :-)

So, for those of us who are not fanatical about sports, there is no months without sports….so we learn to love it.

It would be hard to be Australian without an appreciation of sports!

To everyone watching the score line is a bit confusing:

To break it down
It means 20 goals ( 6 points each)
18 behind (1 point each)
You add the two together
Therefore 20x 6 + 18x 1 gives the final score of 130 or what ever the number is

I would recommend you react to A Beginners Guide to Australian Rules Football from the AFL channel, this should answer some of your questions.
