Living debt free and being content is wonderful. I remember when I retired at 62 a coworker said to me that I must have millions and that’s why I’m retiring. I asked her if she had one of those fancy flat screen TVs hanging on her wall and she replied of course she did. I said that mine was a $5 used one from a yard sale and that is why I can retire.

I like the way you said something like we can be joyful even when we aren't happy. My twin sister and best friend passed away within 18 months of each other and I struggle daily with the depression that has come with that. I recently found a small metal sign that reads, "If you can't find the sunshine, be the sunshine. That's my new goal! 😃😃😃

As a lifelong WV resident, I think you will find that a lot of us 'hillbillies' are nice and helpful people. As John F. Kennedy once said, "The sun may not always shine in West Virginia, but the people always do." <3 Take care and stay the course! You are on your way!

I so commend you and your family for how you are living. You and your hubby are light years ahead of so many young adults like you. They have no clue about being debt free and buckling down to get the things that really mean something. Half of all young girls don’t know how to cook. If they open a can or put something in the microwave, that’s home cooking. Keep going on the path your on and I see good things coming your way.

Im so glad i found your channel ❤
I was home with our 5 children and homeschooled and ran our household. All my children are living their lives now. But when my husband passed, that's when i had to learn the principles you're speaking about. I did that. Dont make a ton of money but am comfortable because of it and I'm content. Sorry for being so wordy, but it can be done. Even later in life.

I love what you discussed about recognizing the little joys because of radical frugality and simplicity. I feel similarly in my tiny apartment that keeps us out of debt (<950sqft, 2bed, 2bath, 3rd floor apartment with going on 5 kids). My struggle is being around people who DON'T live or think this way. I constantly feel pressured by friends and family to buy something larger (which will place us in a lot of debt and push our monthly budget a ton)...I constantly feel reminded by others of the strugges of living in an apartment (the ones that I manage to overcome and accept daily)...I constantly hear people with so much more materially than I complaining that THEY "need" something more. It makes gratitude and contentment a constant struggle. Your videos are helping a lot. I'm grateful that the algorithm brought your channel to me.

I am a 95 year old woman who remembers the great depression of 28. It is interesting that the lifestyle you consider frugal would have been considered comfortable in those years. The intervening years of affluence have not been good for us. Changing back will be difficult but may save our souls.

Don’t say you don’t work. You work very hard, you just don’t get a paycheck!

Hello. Came over from homestead Tessie channel. Having fun seeing your recipes. Frugal is so important in these trying times. We bought a small home with an acre 2 yrs ago. I have hens for eggs and a garden. Thanks for sharing.

You are such a joy to watch and I'm so glad I found your channel. I can identify with your situation in some ways, although some of the details are different. I'm a single mother, and part of my decision to not have a mortgage was actually because I didn't have much of a choice. The rent on my apartment was about to go up, and I just didn't think it was worth it. I tried to get a mobile home, but was not approved for a loan without a big down payment, which I did not have. So I bought an old travel trailer with what little money I had saved. It has had so many issues, and sometimes I really miss the comforts I used to enjoy. But I remind myself that I live mortgage and rent free, which is something most people can't say. It will take a while to get this trailer fixed up, but with the help of my dad and brother, it will eventually be more comfortable. For now, I believe God is refining me with each struggle, because every time something is fixed, that thing that most people take for granted now feels like a luxury to my daughter and me. It is such a blessing to go without and then have it restored. You and your family are in my prayers. You are such an inspiration to me and to so many others.

Thank you for answering some questions. I think it's wonderful that you're living a debt free life. It takes many people years to be able to achieve it. Do you have pictures of your home when you first saw it? I'd love to see the progress you're making or the ways you're making it work until you can fix it. Tell us about the area you're in. Are you in a town or outside a city? Sorry for all the questions, I guess I'm curious. Have either or both of your families visited yet? Okay that's enough, lol. Take care, Linda 🦋
