How to save your CV's on your Lifted Subaru!

In this video I show you how to install a manual transmission mount insert to increase the lifespan of the CV boots on your lifted Subaru.
Please note this demonstration is on a 2003 Subaru Forester so the install procedure may be different on other Subaru models. This insert fits manual transmission only.

* Some people have found the trans mount inserts to cause excessive vibration. Personally I have not found this to be the case, but consider this as a possibility if installing the insert yourself.

Just installed a 2'' front and 2.5'' rear ADF lift with new King coils a week ago on my 04 XT and both Front CV boots have torn and they are already binding. Rock Auto carries the TrakMotive HD CV's that will handle up to 50 percent more articulation angle them the OEM half shafts. The stock half shafts have a 23 to 30 degree angle limit where the TrakMotive half shafts handle a 45 degree angle. For 107 dollars each its worth a try. Just ordered a set hopping it will solve the problem.

My auto 4eat trans mount was worn out. I bought a replacement one from amazon and used 3m windo-weld to fill the void in the mount. I think the tube was around $20 US on amazon. The mount is solid now, definitely transfers vibration into the cab now but I really don’t mind it. Something to think about if you care about these things

Nice vid. I think the trans mount is overlooked by a lot of foz owners. this is a nice diy vid on replacing the mount if you need too.

.. or go DIY and fill the voids in the mount with some polyurethane, like sika 255

I've seen a few comments about these inserts causing excessive vibrations. In my case I haven't noticed any increase in vibrations, but consider this as a possibility if your doing this mod yourself. I may do a video on testing and review of this product in the near future.

Do these get an 18 mph vibration when lifted or is that exclusive to the Gen 5 Outbacks?

A similar product is what we ended up finding as a solution. I have a video on it but can't remember if it's unlisted or public.

Nice vid! Hope it helps others.

Worst thing ever did. Transferred driveline vibration into cab like crazy. Replaced whole mount with new one to get rid of it. I'm lifted 2.5 inch and don't have CV issues so didn't need it anyway.

I doubt it is actually the mount insert causing vibrations. Instead, it will be transferring vibrations generated elsewhere eg from an unbalanced wheel or driveshaft, into the vehicle, as these vibes are normally isolated by the rubber mount. Same principle as using nolathane suspension bushes.

Probably should have mentioned that the particular mount insert you're using here is for manual trans only.. doesn't suit autos as I've found out the hard way..

Nice! Would this mod be needed with just a 2” lift also or is done for higher lifts?

I have fitted a 2" lift kit, with King Springs on a 2006 manual Forester. The gearbox mount support was also added at the time of fitment. The original front inner boots split within 100km of driving. I guess it was just old age. I fitted new Genuine CV boots to the front shafts (inner and outer) only to notice the inner boots are now wearing grooves in themselves from rubbing between the ribs due to the angle. These new boots have 7000km on them and won't be long before they wear right through. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas? Anyone found good quality after market boots?
