How to paint leaves in watercolor. This video is focused on the essential foundation layers that need painting first.

Working in detail is all about painting in layers and the fine detail only really works if you have the right foundations underneath. It is as important with a botanical subject such as a leaf as it is with an animal or bird. The first layers of paint really set the stage for everything else that comes later and choosing and applying the right colours is a really vital part of the whole process. This video focuses on a very colourful fall/ autumn beech leaf. You will learn about the colours to choose for green and brown leaves and how to apply them systematically.

It's amazing how realistic you can get with watercolors, normally I would go on top with colored pencils if I want realistic textures. :)

As a new watercolor painter the hardest part for me is the amounts of water to use. Seems like it’s too much or too little. And them begins to evaporate in the middle of using it. Spritz it or drop it or too much on the brush.

Absolutely fascinating. I didn't realise how much detail is possible with water colour. You truly are a master of your art.
