As much as I love Japan and the genuine Japanese fascination for those who are different, this is inexcusable. We have every right to ask not to be touched. But if I slap your hand away, I'm wrong? Ridiculous. Petting is for animals, not for fellow human beings.

“…but if you do it to them, you are in hot water”

See… this shows that they know that what they’re doing is wrong. It is natural and normal to be fascinated by something you haven’t seen before, but you have to treat people with the same respect that you expect to receive. Our lives are not side show circus acts just bc we may look different. If it were me, I’d have to do the same thing right back to them. Maybe that is the only way to get them to understand that it’s inappropriate.

This is an issue for black women around the world. There is this weird sense where people women and sometimes men think they are entitled to access our bodies; touch our skin our hair grab our backsides. Like how we might feel about it doesn’t matter. They don’t even realise they are thinking this way. But it’s the double standard for me. As the lady commented if we were to behave the same way towards them it would be absolutely unacceptable and could get us in a lot of trouble. That said if someone touches me, I touch them right back!! That usually wakes them up to just how inappropriate they are being. It’s not okay. We go out of our way to learn what is respectful, they should at the very least treat us with the same level of respect they hold us to. I understand the fascination but we are not animals to be petted.

I experienced that in Turkey!! They wanted to touch my boob, they touched my hair ( afro). They wanted to know if I had my lips done. In this day and age this was very weird!!!!

I keep my hair covered at all times. Unfortunately to my poor hair's detriment. People of all colors think it is community property. 🤦🏽‍♀️🧏🏽‍♀️😂

Foreigners complaining about Japan. 🤦
Why don't go elsewhere? Try Middle East... Or, who knows, Africa? 🤔
