Originally feast and dance was supposed to be one book but as George wrote he realised that it would need to be two. Being a gardener writer as he says he is, he couldn’t put half a characters story in one the other half in the other as then he would be committed to what he had written and wouldn’t be able to change anything if he felt it necessary.

A friend of his proposed splitting this the storylines geographically which is what ended up happening.
Interestingly, the original prologue was going to be a mammoth 200+ pages and include ALL of the Iron islands and Dorne POVS instead of any of them becoming regular POVS, but this was very early in the development when there was still supposed to be a 5 year time jump between storm and dance.

All right, George, Becky has finally finished the series, so you can stop messing around and finally release The Winds of Winter!

_"The best of them overcame their flaws, did their duty, and died with their swords in their hands. The worst … The worst were those who played the game of thrones."_

Ser Barristan Selmy, minutes before becoming a player of the game of thrones.

I like Ser Kevan, I think he is a better man than most of the POV characters view him, he is capable and not just a lapdog of Tywin

I adore the Asha and Reek/Theon storylines, especially with them intersecting at the end. Some of George’s best work. Also can’t get enough of Victarion and Barristan. While people have some legitimate grievances with Dance, I think George’s writing is at its best here. It’s a flawed masterpiece and there’s just something about it that makes it my favourite of the series. I think Feast and Dance show George preferring to world build than to actually continue the story. He clearly enjoys his newer characters to the original ones. I’m sure he’s mentioned somewhere that Asha and Arianne are his favourites to write.

It was interesting to hear your thoughts on Tyrion’s story. Generally, his story is considered the worst part by far of this book. While I don’t think he needed 12 chapters, I think the hate his story gets is way overblown.

Rumor is that the book feels anti-climatic is because it was released before it was finished because it was already late. The book was supposed to end off with the Battle at Winterfell and the Battle at Mareen.

Love the book for the most part, but it is a bit of a mess. Too many characters, too many plots. You can see why he's having so much trouble getting the next one done.

I thought nothing of it on my first read, but after seeing others theorize about the "pink letter" from Ramsey I believe Melisandre wrote it.

Also the Theon preview chapter for Winds is one of my fav ever.

Drogon scene even more chaotic in the show

Do you think that Robb legitimized Jon and named him his heir before he was shanked at the Red Wedding. Not that it matters anymore since Jon is dead.

Will you be reading the sample chapters of Winds of Winter? I mean a vlog for that?

Why are they split into two books in Europe?
