In this video Bradford quickly (in under 5 minutes) walks through how to learn the entire fretboard. It comes down to recognizing the relationships between the strings, as well as knowing a few landmarks on the fretboard.

If you know the notes on the A-string, one handy trick for knowing the notes on the B-string is to think the C major chord shape, where you have the same note under your index finger on the B-string and under your ring finger on the A-string. You'll start to see the connection pretty easily once you realize it.

I know that someone else posted this comment already, but I wanted to mention it. I’ve been playing guitar for 13 years, 10 of them at church. I always thought it was “bar” chords, not “barre”, because your pointer finger was acting like a “bar” over the fret. You learn something new every day

I didn't need this lesson, but clicked just because... turns out I learned something- "bar chords" are actually "barre chords".... mind blown

Appreciate tutorials like this. Trying to find resources for my other guitar players. Good for them and a refresher for me.

Very helpful, I've been playing for over 10 years and have never heard such a good explanation.

When I had to become the bass player after playing lead for a couple years, this was what I did to become a better player. I wasn’t a bass player but since I knew octave chords, I could make those fancy sounding low to high transitions and sounded like I knew how to play bass.

Thanks for posting this, guys. I've been playing guitar for <mumbles> decades. I learned the notes on frets 1-5 when I was a tween and the E/A strings through fret 12 later on. It's those pesky D, G, and B strings that I never learned - just too lazy, I guess. Now it's time...

Very useful! Have been struggling to learn that and pentatonic/major scales. Thanks!

Good stuff, thanks guys for the worship patches. I’m using one of your patches on Sunday mornings now. Was a big help for a classic rock/blues guy. Previous;y my delay only got kicked on for solos... Thanks again

I love the idea of this video but I just wanted you to see from my perspective. I am more of a kinaesthetic learner. I have been playing for two years and I feel somewhat comfortable playing however, I do not know a lot of theory at all and a lot of what you are describing, I feel as if you are assuming the player has knowledge of already. In conclusion for myself, with two years experience it would help a lot with explaining the simplest details. I could see for someone with less experience also finding this tricky to decipher. Bare in mind I can play in tune to music I hear but I do not know the notes I am playing. It’s been easier for me to learn this way as I just play to the sound I’m hearing rather than what’s been visually organised to be transferred into the instrument.

You can also go up and over from the D and G string, just up 2 and over 3 instead of 2!

It's not clickbait. The 5 minute's is referring to the length of the lesson not the time it takes to learn the fretboard.

Didn´t need this.. but still.. I wanted to watch the video.. it was great! jajaja... I´m also an electric guitar player (strat player - Best guitars ever-) and that was the way I learned the fretboard.. Thanks Bradford

Can you do a video on how to transition as a player from learning songs from YouTube or the recording, to making your own parts that fit?
