The problem is .333 repeating is not equivalent to 1/3. .333 repeating infinitely approaches 1/3, but never reaches it. 1/3 is simply impossible to write as a complete decimal. So both are true, 1/3 × 3 =1, .333 × 3 = .999

1 third plus 1 third plus 1 third.
Is equal to 1 in a fraction.
Just like 1 fourth 4 times is equal to 1 whole.
But 333 plus 333 plus 333 is still 999, not 1000.
(This stuff is exactly why I never could grasp math.)
