Hit-and-run driver kills 14-year-old walking with mother

Philadelphia police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a girl and then fled the scene.

It happened along the 6500 block of Haverford Avenue in West Philadelphia around 10 p.m. Thursday.

According to Inspector Michael Gormley, the 14-year-old girl was walking back from the store with her mother when she was hit by a driver traveling at a high rate of speed.

The girl was crossing Haverford Avenue at 66th Street when she was struck, police said.
