Hit Powerful Forehands (Tennis Technique)

Take the racket back high with both hands

Drop your body and racket down and close the face

Uncoil you’re body toward the net, raise your non-hitting arm as you approach contact, and swing up to contact to impart topspin on the ball

Continue extending up after contact to ensure control and consistency

I recommend that you catch the racket high over your shoulder to make sure you don’t create a bad habit of swinging across during contact

You got this!

Fundamentals pay off folks. Get loose stay loose you can't be tense. Huge Ryan I noticed I was trying to brace for the impact. Just force of habit but a great point. Secondly I just discovered I was pointed my left hand at the ball where Andy Murray is bringing his left hand in to open up his chest loooong before I do. I'll check this out also. Another great video Coach! Have a most enjoyable weekend 👍

I remember hitting a couple of forehands using all these fundamentals in college. One of these forehands ended up hitting my friend in the mid-section as he was approaching the net. It was the first warm day of spring 1992 and the winds were swirling but predominantly behind me at about 50-55 F. The forehand was moving so fast, I remember it just cleared the net by 1-2 inches and almost looked like it could go long. My friend was frozen with a deer in headlights look of fear. He didn't get his racquet up and was standing at the deuce service line. It wasn't pretty. The match was over.

I've been experimenting with more of a "C" (loop) swing and, for me at least, my swing speed increases not only because the racket has a longer path to travel to accelerate but I can swing relatively slowly on the first part of the "C" and then quickly accelerate through the rest of the loop. Trying match this acceleration with a reduced "C" shape is hard because the timing is more tricky and there is less time to switch between the take back and the forward swing, reducing the amount of acceleration I can achieve.

Watching players with excellent groundstrokes, I notice a similar pattern with the loop: a relatively leisurely take back and a quick acceleration in the forward stroke.

Do we hit under the ball or the back of the ball? I'm never quite sure...
